MzMia -> Mz Mia/Norma Sherry and Outsourcing Of America (2/12/2010 11:04:58 AM)

With all the recent interest and chatter about where and how to create jobs, I have decided to share one of my favorite outspoken authors on outsourcing and America.
[:D]
Her name is Norma Sherry, and I have been reading and posting links to her outstanding articles on how we have allowed our country to be destroyed by widespread, unregulated outsourcing.
Which I feel is one of the primary reasons we are economically fucked these days.
What kind of country doesn't build up and take care of their own people FIRST?

I personally became interested in the "outsourcing" of our country about 25 years ago.
I was a young Mz.Mia back then, but old enough to see the shannigans going on in Detroit, with the airtraffic controllers, and the wide spread union busting tactics and rapidly growing anti-labor policies.
I thought, wow, this can't be good!
Where are all those people going to work, now that all these plants are closing and sending all these jobs overseas?

These policies have continued for the past 30 years and many white collar jobs have been outsourced also!
Damn it, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Facts and Figures on Outsourcing - LoveToKnow Jobs

Outsourcing jobs leaves the American white-collar worker behind

I have been outraged and against unbridled outsourining for over 25 years.
Norma Sherry has written some excellent articles on outsourcing, worth reading.
Here are a few articles I am kind enough to share with you all today.

[;)]
Bye, Bye Miss American Pie, is an outstanding article.   My FAVORITE Norma Sherry article!!  [;)][;)]

Bye, Bye Miss American Pie

This was written 7 years ago, and should be required reading for many.
Where, Oh Where Have All The Jobs Gone?, should be read by those, that still haven't figured that one out yet!

Where, Oh Where Have All The Jobs Gone?  One of my top 5 favorites by Norma!

This one is for my Republican friends that feel there are so many jobs to be had!
Jobs, Jobs, Everywhere a Job and Not a Job to Find    Great read!

Finally I will leave you all a gift.

I am willing to listen to anyone who can tell me how the rampant, unbridled and widespread outsourcing of our jobs and country for the past 30 years is benefiting us today in this economic crisis we are in?

The deficit is growing, and will continue to grow, and it is going to affect our country for at least the next 100 years.
There is no fucking end in sight! No end, no end, no damn end in sight!
We are going to have more government programs coming our way than in the history of America!

The good news is:  there will be some 4 month census jobs coming, and maybe we will start buying more products from overseas, so that there will also be a lot more jobs in the strip malls.

The fact that I lived and watched people allow our country to get in its current state, has been a real experience.
The fact that we sat back and allowed this shit to happen, is still something that even I STILL DON'T BELIEVE.
The chickens have certainly come home to roost.

NOW, I even hear a lot of chatter about building plants and creating MORE manufacturing jobs!
Why not start in Detroit, and use the empty plants that are still there??????

Now let's go back to trying to figure out how to CREATE 100,000 jobs a month for the next 2 years, and do something bout this thing!
[;)]
At this point, I don't care if we end up becoming a COMMUNIST or a SOCIALIST country, we deserve to become whatever we NEED to become.
We allowed it to happen and we did it to ourselves.
We will be supporting those that are underemployed and unemployed and their offspring for years to come.
That is the American way.
PEACE

Red China is raising interest rates on the United States?
Stock market going down?

We need to chat to China about our wonderful "free trade" agreements!
They can't raise interest rates on us right now!

Has it really come to this?

I wouldn't be scared at all HC, I think I would be scared if I was unaware of

I am going to do just fine also.

Probably not, I'm majoring in geography. I have this silly notion about trying to do something about the environment, like work for the EPA or the USGS.

You will have many opportunities!
Environmental jobs are the big wave of the future.

Are you kidding me?
Hell, you can get a great government job!
One day you might be head of the EPA!

...one cant worry too much.   I am sure the government has contingency plans.  The government will kill us when we get to the end of the line.  By what method is anyone's guess.   The bloody wheat field at Gettysburg comes to mind.

Watch private jet traffic for the heads up.

ww 3-   2/3 of the planet likely will be nuked.- many will die.

Recall that the US is the one country that USED the nuke bomb.  Yup- we used it.   We recently changed our policy not to attack first.

The shadow government has plans for you.

Thru out history have been blood shed and war.   We live in a TV folly that we are holy and pure... advanced.  We are barbaric.  Nothing has changed.

Hugs a loved one today.   Life is fragile.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing, MzMia.

I saw Ted Turner being interviewed once and he said if you think Rick Branson is investing billions of dollars in green energy because he is trying to save the environment you need to think again. It is good business.

I wish I could really feel it was going to be okay MzMia. I am working on it but when I look out of these eyes it looks so wrong in some many ways.

Successful countries.
Countries that understand it's not either/or.
Countries that understand economics.
Countries that recognize the difference between blind pride and common sense.
Countries that understand history.

And countries unwilling to repeat the isolationist downturns of past empires.

Trouble is, you repeat this song without ever responding to or considering the facts against your pet position.
That's no more solid ground than the conspiracy theorists.

Here's where the huffy mischaracterization and self-righteous condemnation start...I know, I've seen the act before.

But it still ignores reality.

Emotion and reason. Both useful. Not interchangeable tools.

Enjoy.

I was being facetious, but that's not why I'm in it, I really do care about it. However, I doubt I'll ever head the EPA as I've never been head of any major corporations. But thanks for the vote of confidence. I'll be happy if I can help get even one thing straightened out. I just really want to make a contribution. There are so many problems that need to be fixed and the biggest stumbling blocks are corporations and big business. People keep reverting back to the economy being more important, but what they fail to realize is that without a planet, there is no economy or anything else for that matter.

DarlingSavage-

You might be interested in the developments in the architecture/ construction world, regarding green development. There is a huge surge of interest in the concept that sustainable design and construction actually benefits the economy in the long run.

Instead of seeing the marketplace as the enemy of a sustainable environment, the current thinking is that when you lok at the long term, entire life cycle of products and systems, the sustainable approach is always the logical result.
People like Ray Anderson, the CEO of Interface carpets, realized early that he could make more money in the ong run by producing things sustainably, rather than fixating on short term gain.

For example, the Bank of America building in New York City is a LEED rated structure, and among its many features, it saves a tremendous amount of electricity per year. Its not about saving Bambi, but saving ourselves in the long run.

It is things like this that make me excited and optimistic about the future.
