Well zephyr, I actually had the RSPCA on the doorstep a few months back - worried about how I was taking care of so many cats. Condescending gits is how I'd describe them and they'll not get a penny from me in future on account of it. Plenty other charities (cat specific charities) I can give to and have.

E

yeah because they are obviously in need of a better way to spend their time. [8|] I take it they left satisfied that your cats are actually well cared for?

Aynne88 -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 7:29:00 AM)

Ok I have to preface this first with I have NO children, so don't think I am nuts.

My abuse of my 3 purrly bugs is horrible. They each have their own beds, lined with actual baby blankets. That has to suck.

Ceramic dishes made at Saint George Pottery with their names on them, cuz you know, they can read.[8|].

Every week they all 3 get a new "kitty can't cope" catnip sack, they go insane, love love love them.

I grow them fresh catnip on the sill in winter, and in my herb garden outdoors in summer.

Lavender aromatherapy pillows that get microwaved, especially for the cranky 17 pound boy, Brownie. The vet recommended it for him, his file also says "will bite." lol.  He will.

Miss Monkey likes to sleep in the dryer after the clothes are done tumbling, so rather than have hairy clothes, now I warm her blankie up for her.

Pickles likes fresh salmon, so that is her treat.

All 3 get twice yearly check ups, love, and more love. It's unhumane. My veterinarian said he want's to come back as one of my pets in his next life.

I will try and do better LadyE. [;)].

Oh I almost forgot, Pickles also likes me to put a towel in the sink at night, she likes to nap there.

Here is Miss Monkey with her new pillow, she wuvs it.~

LadyEllen -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 8:13:41 AM)

They left with a flea in their ear Zephyr. Thing is I live in one of the most deprived areas of the county, populated generally with those who have fallen through the cracks of society, the outright useless and a lot of immigrants (generally the better sorts round here), so they come in thinking I'm some idiot on the dole who couldnt possibly know or care or have the means to look after myself let alone a bunch of cats.

Fuck them. I make double what the two of them make combined - vital when you add up the cost of ten cats every week, month and year - and from the discourse knew more about cats too.

OK I accept they may have been concerned and wanted to check things out - what I objected to was the manner they did it in.

I hear ya Lady E and I would have loved to be there when they realised that you probably take better care of your 10 cats than most do with one. [;)] Obviously they were judging you by the area you live in and not....well...you. Even just reading your words on the board it's plain to see that you love your cats and take great care of them.

I understand their concern but maybe they should take more than the area you live in into account. By the way a pic would be lovely for those of us who love to "awwwww" over kitty pics. Multiples are acceptable, I understand how difficult rounding up 10 cats can be. Meantime here is one of my only child...errrr kitten

If I could figure out how to get my PC to put a pic in a post Zephyr!

Mind you, even finding pics on my PC is a bit of a nightmare!

Easy peasy. When you are in the screen to type a reply there is a spot just below in gold print that says "click here to upload" choose the pic then click "embed picture in post" and wala!

LadyEllen -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 8:54:14 AM)

ah-ha - found it! Thanks. It doesnt show on the FR I usually use but it is when you click reply to a specific post!

Will dig some out - just tried one of Cookie but it was too large?

Not sure about that. I take mine of Maggie using my webcam and it works out perfectly.

LadyEllen -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 9:14:54 AM)

All of mine are taken on my Blackberry, and they all seem to be 300kb+ - they wont upload 'cause theyre too large. Wonder if I could get them onto my profile gallery? There's some great ones - like the "we didnt do it" when theyre in the hall playing with the toilet roll stolen from the bathroom.

Found one small enough! This is Charlie, tired out after playing with my daughter's Polly Pockets for a few hours.

I have decided to move to the UK and become Lady E.s cat.

meow~!

consider yourself lucky [:)]

Over here its forbidden by law to declaw the paws from a cat [:D]
and tattooing the ears (as my cats always got done when they got fixed back home, as another measure against them ending up in testing labors as those institutions are checked and are not allowed to have cats with tattooed ears, as that makes it obvious those are owned kitties) is also not allowed here (at least my vet doesn't do it and I think he said its not allowed).

So you might end up just with a micro chip...IF Lady E would decide to do that....she might not [:D]

Sorry to hear that Lady E.

just thought to add to it the potential possibility that someone might have complained about your cats to the RSPCA in the hope that they will take some or all of them away...and when thats the case they simply do their job to check that out...happens to us at work with humans, that we get send out to follow up allegations, if they are true or not.

After a while you know better the person complaining about and the person accused of causing harm...and might not jump straight away anymore...

...but I do understand your point, that depending how they come accross you can get pissed off about them turning up in the first place.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 10:02:33 AM)

Oh Lady E he's gorgeous!  Yeah he's obviously neglected the poor thing [8|]

soul2share -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 10:58:32 AM)

Bummer, I was going to try to post some "awwwwwww" kitteh pics, but mine are all too big!!!!  If anyone knows how I can maybe make them smaller, like cropping or something like that...let me know.....

As far as neglecting them....I stopped at KFC on the way home from Wally World, and it's a good thing I got TWO breasts.....the little piglets, I mean, DEARS, wer right there for some!

LadyEllen -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 11:06:17 AM)

He's a monkey Zephyr - and not the most monkiest of monkeys here either! He's the one that looks exactly like another cat who recently won a competition to be the new face of some brand of cat food.

He was also one of 7 born in the same litter - far too many and one died within a day or so. He meanwhile wasnt thriving either compared to the others, wasnt feeding properly due to the competition, was quiet and withdrawn and hiding up the corner away from the rest. The vet couldnt find anything wrong with him particularly, just that he was the smallest of the litter. We took him, put him in a box, made sure he got his dinner on his own (goat milk and chicken soup to build him up) and kept him warm and well nursed and he's turned out just fine, as big as the others and just as beasty! The odd thing is, that even though he had so much human help, he's about the least keen on people.

Phoenixpower -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 12:07:25 PM)

my neglected kitties already lined up on my sofa (all four of them) to ensure they don't miss out on the chicken I am having in the oven [>:]

LadyEllen -> RE: poor neglected kitties (2/13/2010 3:16:13 PM)

I didnt get to the supermarket in time - and timing is all important when it comes to the rotisserie; you have to get there half an hour after it closes, just when the staff mark whats left down by half - but there was nothing left when I got there.

So, the poor kitties had to put up with a tin of salmon and a box of chicken slices cut up for their weekend treat. Its awful.
