Brain -> Health insurance reinstated after mysterious cancellation (2/12/2010 5:21:29 PM)

This is why people need health insurance with a public option, which several corrupt slim ball senators, congressman, and people at the White House including, Ophonybama don’t understand.

For Dion Shaw, health insurance is a necessity.

The Schaumburg resident, who has ongoing health issues, takes thousands of dollars' worth of medicine every month

After he was laid off from Schiller Park-based Wisconsin Tool and Stamping Co. on Jan. 23, 2009, Shaw paid his premiums religiously so he could continue his Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance through COBRA.

There were some bumps in the road, but throughout his year on COBRA his claims had always been paid.

Until he got a call from his doctor's billing office on Jan. 6. The doctor's office said bills for a series of recent tests had been denied by his insurance company.

Shaw said he immediately called Blue Cross and was given shocking news. His policy had been canceled, all the way back to Nov. 1.

While some November and December claims had been paid, many others had not. Without insurance, the unpaid medical bills totaled $13,893.

Upset, Shaw contacted the U.S. Department of Labor and his attorney. His attorney suggested he send an e-mail to What's Your Problem?

"I don't even know what to tell you," Shaw told the Problem Solver in early January. "You work your (butt) off, you do what you think is right. I paid what I was supposed to pay when I was supposed to pay it. I took those tests thinking they were covered."

Shaw, 42, said just one of the drugs he takes costs more than $2,500 a month.

If he had to pay the $13,893 or his monthly drug costs on his own, he would likely end up in bankruptcy, he said.

"We don't have it," Shaw said. "We'd be wiped out. … I've been out of work for the better part of a year."

Good Lord.  Part of two months of the bills came to almost $14K.  His drugs run over $84K/year!

That said, Brain, I'm not sure what your point is.  The HMO made a paperwork error.  Are you suggesting that if there was a public option, the government's incredible competence would ensure that this would never happen?

If that guy isn't care full, he might be on one of Obama's death panels. He will be way to expensive for Obama Care.

he can write is all off under the miller act if he knows how.

the problem with government run health care is you share title to your body, not only commercially as they do now, as in you think you free but in reality you are a serf and have to pay rent for everything, now if you go on gube health care it will be no different than registering your car.

Once you do that they make the rules and you better follow.

Good luck with that man.  Not me never happen in my lifetime.

It looks like it turned out ok but for a while he was crapping his pants because he thought they arbitrarily cancelled his policy and he would go bankrupt and die. And that’s been done before and people have died. Nobody should have to experience that kind of worry and stress. I think everyone needs to know they’re covered no matter what and the system needs to be reformed to do that. In Canada or Britain nobody worries about krud like this.

The HMO admitted no wrong.
"Blue Cross claimed it was canceled by Wisconsin Tool and Stamping," he said. "What the reason for the cancelation was, I am not privy to."

Neither did his employer.
Rosa Macrito, vice president of operations for Wisconsin Tool and Stamping, told the Problem Solver the company made its payments. Macrito said that if there was a gap in coverage, it was a "renewal" issue.

"We renew every January," she said. "But he never called us and told us he was having any difficulty."

I know.  As you listen/read, your mind gets so boggled you think you're going insane.
