All of a sudden, over the past week, I've received a number of c-mail approaches from allegedly young females. The average age has been 30 years my junior, and all have had photos of very attractive women. Being skeptical, I responded briefly but politely to all. All immediately requested my Yahoo ID to further communicate. My experience elsewhere tells me that these will all lead to some CC verification, membership, or other nonsense. I haven't researched this myself, but I assume they're moving dupes away from CollarMe ASAP to avoid TOS violation. Otherwise, why bother moving anyone away from CM and risk losing him? But why is Yahoo the unanimous choice of these scammers? Does Yahoo in some way tilt the playing field even more in their favor?

I strongly suggest that you read all these threads on scams. They might enlighten you and explain why you are about to get the responses you will. - LA

I would guess that the most simple answer is that Yahoo is faster and easier to use than other IM programs? I have Gmail, and MSN IDs but yahoo is the fastest, most simple IM service I have found. Not saying it is the best just easier and faster.

Thanks. I already understand that these are scams. I'm primarily interested in knowing why Yahoo is the unanimous means of communication among these scammers.

Yes, I suppose it could just be a matter of convenience, and nothing additionally nefarious to the scam itself.

Uh, have you tried using the IM here in CM? It's not that great. I wouldn't worry about it. Except learn how to sign in in invisible.

Almost everyone has a yahoo im, I think it is just a matter of convenience, nothing more.

There's a scammer on NF that get's girls YIM, then somehow gets the password, lots of times that's the same password the girls use for the yahoo email, and for their NF accounts. The guy then goes into the NF accounts and uses the money the girls have on them to call other girls. (and to tribute them)

FR jumpthrough. People hack yahoo every day and nothing is done about it. A second rate hacker can find out everything, install a keylogger and do pretty much what they want. I don't yahoo. Period. T

I have been on various chatforums for many years and started on Yahoo. I find it the best working software of them all. That is why i use it and if i am going to do any serious chat I prefer going on Yahoo with it. Just a matter of practicality. My profile there is absolute basic as if you do fill it in you seem to get a multitude of scammers and other forms of spam all the time.

I HATE YAHOO blechptooey Ive had one for 11 years but I NEVER use it, I much prefer Gtalk and gmail, I forward mail to my gmail account and it cuts spam out
