I think this is funny and I think they all deserve each other.

Joe the Plumber Goes Off On McCain, Says he 'Screwed Up My Life...I Don't Owe Him Sh*t ’

"McCain was trying to use me," Wurzelbacher said, according to public radio correspondent Scott Detrow. "I happened to be the face of middle Americans. It was a ploy.”

"I don’t owe him s—," Wurzelbacher continued. "He really screwed my life up, is how I look at it.”

WTF?  The guy was a whiner, and was hand picked to represent Middle America on McCain's campaign.  McCain lost, and it was a full year ago.  So why if Joe popping up now?  Did he expect a cushy Cabinet post?

Jack45 -> RE: Joe the Plumber Goes Off On McCain, Says he 'Screwed Up My Life...I Don't Owe Him Sh*t ’ (2/15/2010 2:42:58 PM)

John McCain was merely playing the role of a presidential candidate, i.e. he was a fake candidate whose real purpose was to allow his opponent to win.

Presidents are appointed in this country.

Outside of picking Palin as his running mate, what evidence do you have of this claim?

In support of Jack (who'd a thunk it?) I get the same impression DS - OK over here we saw comparatively little of it, but what little there was I watched and noted ('cause questions would later be asked on CM!) and the whole thing just seemed so counter intuitive to the goal of winning to such an extent that, when one considers he had professional campaign managers, it would seem they were either suddenly and inexplicably incompetent or they'd set out to ensure the other guy won.

The truth is that whoever won should have faced such a mess that his party would be come to be associated with it. A continuation of Republican administration should have made it impossible to keep the blame from their door, whilst if a Democrat administration took it on, then little by little (as indeed we see here on a daily drip feed) it might be possible to lay that blame at their door.

Joe might feel he's been played, and he probably has been - but I suspect McCain may have been played too, and in a way most unfitting to him inasmuch as my impression of him as a man goes.

I'm with Ellen and Jack on this, Steven. It was very hard to shake the impression that McCain got saddled with caribou Barbie by the Republican party to nobble his bid for the Presidency. That ticket definitely looks like a "My Lovely Horse" candidacy now. I doubt anybody was stupid enough to think that the woman did McCain's campaign any good at all. I trust everybody's aware that his first choice was Joe "fillibuster" Biden?

McCain is the one who finally approved of Palin - he could've declined in favor of a more "traditional" candidate for VP.  McCain saw in Palin a kindred spirit.

The RNC paid for the $150,000 makeover, and they could've done that a whole lot cheaper, or not done it at all.

It seems like for all the base motivation Palin did, the campaign spent much of their time putting out Palin fires, instead of being able to move the campaign forward.

Wrong Joe.  It was Lieberman he wanted.

Yep, and they figured he'd lose the base if he went with Lieberman.

Sorry, brainfart. I meant Leiberman. I doubt that Biden was on McCain's christmas card list even before the election...

McCain started out with great intentions. He wanted Leiberman and was told no. The RNC tabbed Palin as a way to grab the female voters. No one could have known her mouth would override a presidential candidacy. But they stuck with her. I always had the impression the RNC didnt want to deal with the mess the previous administration left behind.
