Democrats need to do a better job getting out the message and confronting Republican lies. This kind of misrepresentation of the truth is not acceptable.

A CBS poll reveals that when asked whether the Obama administration, raised, lowered, or kept taxes the same for most Americans, only 12% get the answer correct: taxes were decreased.

• 24 percent of respondents said they INCREASED taxes.
• 53 percent said they kept taxes the same
• And 12 percent said taxes were decreased.

Of people who support the grassroots, “Tea Party” movement, only 2 percent think taxes have been decreased, 46 percent say taxes are the same, and a whopping 44 percent say they believe taxes have gone up.

Tax cuts were expansive, in that they covered many Americans, but they were small. And some taxes were raised on the state level to make up for shortfalls. Another reason for the lack of accurate perception on tax cuts is the loud drumbeat from the right about how Obama raises taxes, which is factually inaccurate.

Hmmm... that analysis of the poll seems to be misleading and almost an outright lie. Didn't the biggest federal cigarette tax get signed into law under the current administration?

Just sayin.

Lets not forget the Bush tax cut that was just allowed to expire, raising taxes for everyone.

And yeah, because when Bush jacked up spending, cutting taxes was the way to go...

95%...in the first year. You know how long under current proposals all of those tax cuts and more will be given back? About 1 month of the 2011 Obama budget.

You're talking to the wrong guy. I don't salivate over tax cuts.

Somebody offers me money, I like to know what I have to do for it.

oh yay - we are saved.

Well...for me, my property tax went down because the value of my home went way down (this btw, affected my monthly mortgage premium to the good...yay!)
My income tax refund was about $2,000 more than it was last year.  Turbo tax prepares mine, and I admit I don't know jack about preparing taxes or the breaks your allowed to claim, but something seems just a tad bit easier on me, at the moment.

All I'm saying is I don't look a gift-horse in the mouth.  Taxes will eventually (probably) go up because thats what democrats always seem to do.  And I do recall one of the biggest tax increases in Fl for cigarrettes that I've ever seen, but I don't smoke, and that was raised by the Fl Governor (R-Charlie Crist), not the President of the US.

Just who are "Democrats" or Repulicans for that matter?  It would seem to me that there are a whole lot of folks reading the blogs and sprewing talking points with damn few folks actually getting out from behind their computers and doing anything.  Especially Liberals.  There is nothing preventing Democrats from forming groups and becoming both visible and vocal.

What, Brain, do you propose as a solution?
