I have no handy-dandy links, no statistics, nothing really to debate. I'm just curious. The level of animosity between left and right seems to have reached epic proportions in the last 10-12 years. I say seems because while it may be obvious to some, I never paid much attention to politics before GW. Somewhere after the invasion of iraq, I discovered a political forum. The nastiness and name calling were there already, but it grew, not slowly either, but in leaps and bounds. I ended up being one of the spineless, unpatriotic liberals there and dealt with enormous levels of condescending trash talk from conservatives there. I hear lots of talk of bipartisanship, but I wonder if it is really possible. Both parties have a stake in the extremes, one to the left, the other to the right. Neither can subsist without that fringe. There's too much money and too much political danger involved to not. Even the tiniest misstep turns into another something-gate. It's like we bounce from one hopeful scandal to the next, and both sides literally squirm at the opportunity to paint the other as modern day demons. In some sectors on both sides, there is unbridled hate for the other. My question isn't about Bush or Obama, Clinton or Reagan. My question is where does it lead us as a country? And maybe a second question of where the tipping point is in terms of anger. How much anger can the extremes manage towards the other before it balloons into something else?

Excellent question. I think we are hitting the point where it balloons into something else. I suggest this can be witnessed by the increasing numbers of Indies. The tighter each party tries to squeeze its grip, the more folks slip out of their hold. The funny part is that both extremes want to deny the growing number of independents and treat them as if they are members of the other party. Eventually, this will either bring about the end of these parties as it has in the past, or the 2 parties will wake up and realize that the majority of the country is some where towards the middle of the political spectrum. My bet is on the former.

What a wonderful post StrangerThan! I have been debating starting a thread about all the increased nastiness and animosity, around HERE on these boards, lately. As long as I have been posting here, we have always had divergent opinions, but lately it is more than just disagreeing, it is a barage of insults. I have noticed some of the most vicious, mean and cruel comments are coming from those on the left. Of course, we are always going to have the usual suspects on the right, with their comments also. I am not sure what makes people so vicious, mean, cruel, nasty, and angry, but I hope our leaders are able to work it out much better than these angry asses on the boards, both left and right. As desperate as times are becoming in our country, we the people are going to have to put a lot of this partisan crap behind us and work together to save this country. I myself am a Moderate, straight in the middle. [;)]

I'm quite sure the nasty gene has been evenly distributed thru the political spectrum....claiming the most vicious mean and cruel comments are coming from the left.....in forum populated by the likes of willbeur ,cuckold and servant(to name but a few) is laughable....or indicative of a bias whether consious or unconsious.

Are you talking about personal attacks? Then that probably is true. the ones you mention tend to rip apart political parties. But, i do believe you need to also revist those same threads and look beyond the rip to the why behind them. Im sure you may find its not always as it appears.

I have been looking tazzy, and it is ugly. I expect the comments from DomiGuy, I realize he can't help himself. I understand the anger towards Real0ne, to a degree though people love to engage him. But, I am sorry, I have seen a lot of name calling and personal insults lately, at least more than I am used to around here. I would not enjoy this place as much, if everyone thought the same. I like to hear a variety of opinion. It is possible to disagree with someone, without a litany of insults.

Come on Mia...read their damm posts....one would need to have the patience of Jobe not to rip their bullshit apart. Or better yet just look at the threads that crew originate...there is no attempt to discuss issues contained therein.....they bait and invite attack.If you ask me they have been answered accordingly to the tone and content of their vitriol.

Where does it lead? Gridlock, starting soon. Obama's government was almost in gridlock anyway, and it won't improve. After that, it's our duty to make it clear to the two parties that they are getting paid way too much to simply posture and collect money from lobbyists.

No problem...and no worries,as a matter of fact we do agree on the increased nastiness.....we just seem to be at a difference of opinion as to where the majority of it is coming from. You seem to hold the belief that warm and cuddly lefties are more responsible...while I hold the opinion it is those miserable bastards on the right. Now which of us will feel more comfortable with our positions as we read the posts of Cuck and willbeur....or perhaps from the other side Aynne,MM or RML....I'm thinking I'm sitting pretty on this one [:D]
