I need to find a material that can be used to support items that are to be brazed with bronze or soldered with silver, so temperatures around 600 to 900 degrees celsius. The material should be pliable as in a putty form, able to withstand the temperatures of the work, and be of minimal expansion under heat and not to be too much of a heat sink, does anyone know of any material that possesses these properties, is there anything available ?

I seek the use of such a material for assembly work when working with silver.

I know there must be something like that, but it's been so long since I did any jewelry design, I can't remember what it's called. However, I did find a third hand. Good luck.

Lol kit. But really clay can not only handle the heat it loves it. Can be shaped into any form. It's strength is not all that great as it will become brittle. But that's where the shape comes in. Remember it is not the mortar that makes a brick wall strong, it is the form and structure. Shape it right and make friends with gravity, that's how things are built.

If clay doesn't do it, a local auto parts store might have somethijng. Like a goop used to patch exhaust systems or something like that. Being the Tim Taylor type I would almost say duct tape and coathangers, but under heat that glue gets really stuck. It bakes on and can screw up the work.
