damn... to live as I do now...

ummm, about 15K a month would need to be guaranteed, that would cover the mortgages, the cars, private school for the kids... and regular expenses.

I think your geography has a LOT to do with how much you need to live.

The thing is, what you need to live is probably less than what you want to live life at full throttle.

The NYC area is about the most expensive around.

$3500-3700, which would leave enough for some travel, books, etc.

Less if I sold off the RV.

Where I currently live, $2000-$2300/mo and I would be good to go for paying all the bills (rent/cell/insurance/food) and have plenty left over for fun.
You really learn the difference between what you think you need and what you actually need when you get a divorce.

The idea is if you were 100% guaranteed a certain amount of income every month, and that amount would stay fixed in buying power forever, how much would you require to just take it, and never work for cash again, but you are 100% limited to that amount only, and couldn't make anymore than that. You wouldn't have to work, or do anything if you didn't want to.

Unless I'm also guaranteed that the costs of things will never increase either, it is impossible to say. Rent that may be 1200 a month now could be 2400 a month 20 years from now. The cost of food, gas, etc. is always increasing, so if the money one has to live on doesn't increase with that, the dollar amount one says today could mean nothing down the road. Add to that the fact that one needs medical coverage of some sort, which is also ever increasing, and again you can't come up with a reasonable number that will last until you die unless the numbe ris high. Some are saying 700 a month, others much more, but with one tragic health incident and all the numbers mean shit.

Wanders into thread misguidely optimistic that it might be full of  things deep and meaninful to people, sorry to interrupt, having now spotted how clear the topic title makes it that money is life.

To some ... maybe.

Pirate

LOL, what nonsense... I love how people live in their own made up world of non-existent intent.

God, I hate extremists, money is not everything, but its not nothing either, love is something, but you can't eat love. Ideally, you'd have enough of both. Sorry, my question is about the minimum amount of one and not the other. However, your viewpoint that I'm inferring life is 100% quantified in terms of money is a farce, wholly existing in your head.

So now ... tell me where I expressed a viewpoint on what you infer prior to this post ? (You can hate me all you want, ain't gonna change the fact that I didn't)

"the topic title makes it that money is life. "

Anyway, if you did not mean to infer that my topic is about what you said, then I take it all, back. So, what exactly was the point of the comment? I may be dense, have a toothache, and minor headache, so explain please.

How clear (added before) the topic title makes (or doesn't) it.

(my words)

To some.

No offence was intended.

Edit explained, by this Pirate, as a rarity, because there's still a US English/English language barrier, some of us still strive to overcome.
