Status: offline 		Hayworth: Obama birth certificate an 'identity theft' issue


Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, who on Monday officially entered Arizona's Republican race against Sen. John McCain, defended his recent call for President Barack Obama to produce his birth certificate, suggesting his questions stem not from conspiracy theories that Obama was really born in Kenya but from concerns about identity theft.

A response from a blogger... thought this was most appropriate and put it so much better than i could have...

I'm not normally a fan of the idea that correlation = causation, but it is really hard to ignore when it comes to the "birther" debate...

Simply put, there has never been a controversy over the "natural born" status of a Presidential candidate in the 200 + year history of our republic.

Until of course the Presidential candidate in question was a mixed-race guy with a "muslim" name.

I mean, can you name a single sitting President in our history who was being asked for his birth certificate more than a year into his first term?

If you don't think this has something to do with our 44th President's name or his skin color, then you're in denial.

Status: offline 		You would think that any person who is a serious contender for President, would have gone through extensive background checks prior to being able to run for presidency? I fail to believe that the security agency would fuck up that bad to allow a person to use a falsified identification and be elected as leader of a country like the US.

Status: offline 		I don't agree that it is about race.  I suspect that McCain would have the same nutcases chasing him had he been elected.

Part of it is that the Internet makes it so easy to start or perpetuate baseless rumors.

Does Hayworth actually believe that of all the names that a hypothetical fraudulent Presidential candidate could choose from, that he would pick Barack Hussein Obama?  Come on now!

Quite obviously, because he bypassed the FBI, the CIA, and everybody else, as an infant, and  he is an illegal immigrant.

Status: offline 		Since I'm not a US citizen and not sure if this would be accessible through public records but wouldn't it be available to Obama's detractors to search through the Vital Statistics Dept.records to see the original birth certificate of Obama?

We've been through this before, cadenas.  The requirement for President is not ONLY to be a US citizen, but to be born on American soil.  So you will not be seeing President Ahnold unless the laws get changed.

Status: offline 		McCain was questioned, briefly. The story of him being born on a base quickly laid the complaints against him to rest. Conveniently. Of course he would have to be questioned while Obama was.. because McCain wasnt born in the continental US. And of course Obama's records in Hawaii were all a conspiracy, back in 1961, way back then the plans were laid for him to be the first black President.

I agree with Maher on this issue. Many people are racist, but they cant call him a nigger... so they complain about this and that, calling him a liar, demanding his impeachment (for what i have no freakin clue), demanding the PRESIDENT provide this and that to prove, beyond a doubt, regardless of what the US SC says, what Congress says, what the SecretService says.. to prove he is an american citizen.

When was the last time in history was anyone required to prove where they were born?

How long into a presidency did we harp on the President to prove this or that?

Hell, even Kennedy got away with murder and we, as a nation, let it rest. Its time this rested, because its racially motivated (whether its his black heritage or his muslim sounding name, take your pick)

You are mistaken. The Constitution says "natural-born citizen" - which is generally accepted to mean "citizen from birth".

And in any case, McCain clearly wasn't born on American soil, either (and a number of other Presidential candidates before him also weren't).

Status: offline 		It requires either birth on american soil ( a military base does count) or birth to a natural citizen, making the child an automatic natural born citizen no matter where.

Actually, he wasn't born on base nor even in the Panama Canal Zone. The base hospital where he supposedly was born wasn't even built until several years after his birth.

The most credible evidence indicates that he was born in the civilian hospital in the city of Colon, which is in Panama proper.
