I don't want to spend My life... touching the underside of a toliet... that occasionally gets pee'd on... Nor do I want My ass in the bowl. I am raising a brillant young male, My son.. and he knows its polite to put the seat down and to rise it when he pees.... No one wants to touch the yucky side of the toliet... That being said, everyone is different... For Me in My home toliet seat is down or hell to pay!

Yet you still wash your hands after using the toilet anyway? So what's the biggie?

Ok.. it's My ick factor... that is all... and damn right I wash My hands... :)

And the tp?

And the angels sing their heavenly chorus.... YES, YES, someone understands the fine art of TP!

As for seats, if your a woman... put it up when you leave, if your a man, put it down.

If your toilet's too nasty to touch.... that's what a house slave is for.

Technically zephyr, our hands pick up other foreign bacteria and germs all the time. My comment is based on the assumption that we all clean our bathrooms on a regular basis.  My mother taught me to always put the seat down afterward. Personally I find it much simpler to park my butt down and remain seated through the entire performance...so to speak!

Ok, I was just wondering. I have that ick factor also yet I live alone and hate cleaning the toilet but it does get done at least once a week.

This is my attitude. I've changed diapers and spent a ridiculous amount of my life cleaning up after errant pets. Pets will pee on the rug or the couch--now that makes a little pee on the toilet seem perfectly reasonable.

(I mean animal pets, not LovingPet or other human pets.)

As far as I'm concerned, when it's not being used, the seat and the lid should both be down. (In general, if you're not using something, it should be closed -- aside from there being no risk of stuff falling in if the lid is closed.)

my logic on the subject. I use it in one position and one position only. He uses it in two.  Therefore, 2 out of 3, the scales tip to the permanent resting place of DOWN. Not to mention, it is not aesthetically pleasing to be looking at the underside of the seat in the bathroom.

Two other points:
1. I do the 75% asleep middle of the night pee, often in the dark. Hence how easy it is to fall in
2. the jarring noise of the seat slamming down IF I remember to check in the middle of the night is very unpleasant to my sleeping ears.  He's turning the damned light on either way, he can lift it and put down.

The seat and the lid should both be down.  Even Butterhead shuts the lid on her potty chair.  If a toddler can do it guys, you can too.

The four leggers I presume? Having the naturally 2 and 3 legged ones drink out of the toity is..... yeaaaaahhhhhh. Not our style.

As a matter of fact in this household.... seat lit MUST be up. Its the indoor doggy water source.

Is it that hard to just look and put the seat down if it's up?

It is when it's 2AM, you are 90% asleep, and your vision is 20/400 without contact lenses.

I'm with the "seat and lid down" crowd. Everything else aside, I have no desire to bathe parts of my bathroom in vaporized toilet water when flushing. Fnordstrum also made a good point in that things can't fall into the toilet if the lid is down.

It's not an issue between us. He puts the seat down when he's done and I put the lid down.  It's just our habits and we're not bothered by the other person's habit.

Solved easily in our house. He has his bathroom and I have mine.

Seat is always down in mine. The downstairs loo he knows to always have the seat and the lid down as it is used by guests.

This is what I don't understand about most people. They get all upset if the toilet seat is up or down or not but don't mind having a toilet seat which robs you of your ability to walk even after a medium jobby.

Ever thought that's maybe why some people leave the toilet seat up? They're there trying to walk by trying to goose-step but end up staggering their way out of the bathroom, and they're more bothered about the loss of feeling and sensation in their legs and why they apparently have become paralyzed from the waist down rather than whether the seat is up or down.

It's even worse when you've just finished curling one off and all you can feel are pins and needles in your legs, and not the bathroom floor.

Seriously, some people need to consider supplying a pair of crutches in their bathroom.

Wooden seats are better.

Sure we do, but if the seat has been peed on, and it has to be wiped, then that bacteria is now on the person's hands. I'm thinking more of public bathrooms than in someone's home. Don't get me started on the state of the average woman's bathroom Makes me wonder what those women are like at home.

I'm probably about to alienate most of the female population on collarme, but here goes . . .

What is the big deal with toilet seats? I've lived with men my whole life and figured out early on that they leave the seat up, so it became my habit to look before sitting down. I've never fallen in (ok, there was one near calamity, but it was funny) and never sat in pee. Seriously, why is this such a burning issue for so many? Is it that hard to just look and put the seat down if it's up?

Fast Reply

I can't resist, I have to comment on this. I don't care if men put the seat down. I just want them to pick it up! They all think they can aim, but they can't! Just pick the damn thing up, PLEASE!!!!!!

Now, I'll go and see what other people had to say.
