Go all around the world, and you'll find things but worse. I can still be as freakish as I like, and not get arrested by morality police, or stoned, etc. As far as incarceration goes, it's more or less a result of US criminal law, and policeing tactics (which, by the way are majorly, if not directly inflenced by your elected representatives). Many other westernized countries different ways of dealing with offenders than outright incarceration, so while we might have a larger number of people actualy in prison per capita, I imagine we've got comperable numbers when it comes to people actually under control of the department of justice. In all truth, if the American people would stop seeing "getting tough" as the only solution to crime, we may just be able to oh, I don't know, have less people behind bars. In any event, I can stand on the street corner, yell most anything (assumeing they're not fighting words, or present a clear danger), sleep with anything that can give legal consent, own assault rifles, my TV isn't taxed, and I can practice a relgion of my own design if I cared to. That's more than I can say for most other places.
