Purchasing a Senate seat:

Obama to tout housing help Friday in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) - President Barack Obama is unveiling $1.5 billion in housing help, a boost timed to his appearance in the city with the worst foreclosure crisis in the nation.

Obama's move, detailed by aides in advance of his town hall here Friday, is the latest by a White House determined to show it is helping families rebound from a deep recession. The downturn is taking an election-year toll on Obama's party as voter frustration builds.

Obama was to announce that housing finance agencies in the five hardest-hit states in the housing crisis will receive $1.5 billion to help spur local solutions to the problem. Those five are Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan and Nevada.

The policy wrinkle comes during a two-day Western trip with different agendas for the president. He will be back in town-hall mode, a venue that aides say allows him to connect with people and distance himself from the messy process of Washington governing.

The president is also out to help vulnerable senators protect their seats and, in turn, gain as much legislative leverage as he can.

At the town hall and a business speech he will be lending his support to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, a top 2010 election target of Republicans.

A lot of people have been wondering if this was why the Democrats was holding back so much of the "stimulus" money, and indeed it is.

Actually the Democrats' reelection slush fund (aka Porkulus) is a lot bigger than this 1.5 billion.

This 1.5 billion was just one little droplet of it.

well, if this is the case, there will be no republicans in any office for some years to come, Sanity, you better start thinking right and vote democratic.

I think that the voters in Nevada will see this for what it is. Harry Reid is in trouble out there and the mayor of Las Vegas will not be throwing out the welcome mat for Obama and co..

If any of the Republicans are as determined to destroy the Republic through this very extreme deficit spending as Obama and the rest of the Democrats are then they don't deserve to be elected.

Actually, I don't know if it even matters.  If this dropped unemployment from its current level to 5%, I would expect a significant impact.  But it's still stubbornly high.  Kinda weird making a big pronouncement about the impact on the economy of a public works project when the impact isn't really there.

DS, you have been around long enough to know that it is not the impact, it is the percieved impact. One of the things that pisses me off about these suits is that everything they supposedly do for us is for show.

I supported Obama, if for no other reason but to keep Mr 100 Years In Iraq the hell out of the big chair. But Obama is proving himself to be nothing more than another stuffed suit.

It doesn't matter, as long as we have a significant contigent who will vote for more public benefits, we do not deserve, nor could we cope with the real change that some of us desire, and many see as necessary to our recovery. We are stuck in the ditches until we get rid of these bitches. And bitches they are. Whoever gives them the best treats gets their loyalty.

But they do have to make time in their ass kissing schedule to curry the votes to keep the chair. They are about as respectable as crack addicts who stop over Mom's when they run out of money and get something to eat, only to start the process again, and again, and again.

Elect me and I will show you change. And I will also show you how I can arrainge for a private security team, formed by myself, which will shield me from our own Secret Service and Blackwater. I will not go down like JFK.

So, as I said, there will be no republicans in government.

If this was an attempt to bias the general election don't you think they might have waited till a little closer to November before doing this?

No. Announce it in February with a presidential visit and with each passing day hype it up through the elections.

Drill that propaganda into the little people's heads.

No. It takes months for any results that can be trotted out in a campaign to occur. This is exactly the timing I suggested 6 months ago for release of more stimulus money.

The Dems have been rattled badly by recent poll results showing that they're heads are on chopping blocks right now, and they're panicky about trying to reverse the public's perception of them due to all their back room dealings and things.

Actually, polls show that incumbents, of all parties, are on the chopping block.

And for what it's worth, a common reaction historically, based on emotion rather than reason. Another reaction in place of proactive solutions.

I doubt that, but we'll see. What I'm feeling is that people are outraged that the "Hope and Change" that they believed in is turning out to be ten times worse than anything we've ever had before.

Here's the problem.

You're going by your feelings, not by the polls you pretend to cite. Check out the news. The actual news.

Nor are people outraged. Again, check facts instead of your feelings. People are disappointed that nothing is happening, that it's still the same, not worse.

There's a reason they call it Bush Light. Same old, same old.

Like I wrote, I disagree. But we'll see. One thing that is obviously true beyond any doubt is that he (Obama) had the Independents, but now he is losing them by record numbers.

Scott Brown was somewhere to turn. It seems that the only thing Obama can deliver is the kiss of death...
