I watch PBS news the most and MSNBC second. I used to watch Fox news the most but it became obvious after about three years the news was biased. It became obvious to me when they say fair and balanced they mean balancing what they consider “liberal media” like CNN or what they jokingly call CNN, which is the Clinton News Network.

It's unfortunate more people don't watch MSNBC because I think they are objective and they provide a quality product. I think more people don't watch MSNBC because other networks like CNN and Fox had a head start in becoming well-established in the marketplace. I remember one lady who liked Keith Olbermann so much she said she wanted to have his babies. I think I can hear a right winger vomiting somewhere now.

On PBS I especially like Judy Woodruff who formerly had a half hour show in the afternoon on CNN.

Poll Finds PBS Most Trusted Name in News

A new poll finds PBS among the most trusted institutions in America and the most trusted name in news. According to an annual poll conducted by GfK Roper Public Affairs & Media, 40% of Americans trust PBS' news and public affairs programs a "great deal." Fox News was second at 29% and CNN was third at 27%.

Additionally, when asked to chose whether news coverage, investigations and discussions of major issues on PBS programs was "liberal," "mostly fair" or "conservative," 40% chose "mostly fair." NBC and ABC were second with 33% each followed by CNN (31%), NPR (29%), Fox News (25%) and MSNBC (24%).

PBS Kids also earned high marks from the public with 67% of respondents rating children's programming "very important" compared to 49% for children's programming on cable and 44% on broadcast television.

The public broadcaster's public funding also got high approval ratings with 80% of respondents saying funding for PBS is money "well spent" and an "excellent" use of tax dollars, second only to military defense.

Additionally, when informed that public broadcasting receives 15% of its funding from the government - coming out to about $1 per person per year - 46% said this amount is "too little," 39% said it's "about right" and 11% said it's "too much."

The survey included 1,002 participants, ages 25 or older, across the country and was conducted January 4-18, 2010.

I do watch PBS news. The positive with them is that they avoid sensationalism and "infortainment" as much as possible. Otherwise, they are very much restrained to (government and corporate) approved line of reporting as everyone else in the mainstream media.

Among the things I like about PBS and NPR is that the people disagreeing don't shout at each other, continually interrupting.

You can actually hear their positions and reasons, and then the concessions and disputed points from the other side(s).

Imagine.

Most of the other non-print news outlets have become the Jerry Springer Show.

My barber Vito and my bartender Jack are my most trusted names in news.

And....I get to read Playboy and drink while getting caught up....
