Actually we have not had mail delivery since Feb 7th.
Our mail is (was) delivered by vehicle and the post office doesn't permit the carriers to deliver the mail if they cannot safely reach the mailbox.

We have tried to shovel it out, but as soon as we do it snows again and in then buried by the snow plows.

there's going to be some seeds and seedlings in my mailbox eventually. I'm planning on a veggie garden this year. $2 / lb. for tomatoes is nutz.

I was ogling a 20" Don Corleone the other day for an ungodly amount of money and whining that I don't have an ungodly amount of money to have him, then saw Capt Teague for 1/10 of the Don's price, $34.00, and splurged.

Because of the unreliable condition of my lane here at home, I had it shipped to me at work. I think our mail lady thought I had flipped my lid when she brought the box in. Of course I had to get him out and set him on the window ledge next to my desk. I was so excited.

The ladies that have the other company in our building just didn't get the thrill at all. No understanding AT ALL how a 47almost48 yo woman can get excited about a pirate toy. My pressman just looked at me funny. My boss thinks he is totally cool.

I swear, more people just really need to get in better touch with their inner child!

What about putting a huge box or so near the street where the postman can leave it for you

Back home we had that problem sometimes (not my family personally as we live in the society) but a friend from my school days, she lived a mile or so up in the woods and in winter there were many days where they couldn't safely use the car either way (some of her birthdays we had to walk up and down that bloody hill, gosh did that piss me off, particular in one year where I wrapped it all in huge boxes for her to give her extra time to unwrap it all

) though walking down together as a group after her birthday used to be quite fun.

However, during times the mail could not come to them they opened a special mailbox for them near the street for the post man

And hey...when you aren't swamped in with mail at home...what about reading your mail on here...for a change

thank goodness it is not as rigid where I am from, at least in regards to that friend (or her parents as I doubt that she lives there anymore by now

However, so I better wait then to post to you until july...because now is winter...and then comes the flood

A new fountain pen for Oldest, as he broke his again, and while I was at it, and paying the postage anyway, I ordered some more school supplies I would have bought in a local shop otherwise. There where erasers, pencils, coloured pencils, ballpoint pens, a pencil sharpener, ink, and other assorted necessities. Middle One is a first grader and goes though this stuff like nobodies business. Oh the excitement.
A new pair of basketball boots for Youngest also arrived yesterday.
Then there were seed catalogs and bills. And some more bills. Never a shortage of those.

However, at the moment what did not arrive it is more important. Oldest is changing schools this summer. He is done with elementary. He applied to the Gymnasium of his choice, hoping for a place in the bilingual program for gifted kids. At the interview the principal told us that the acceptance letters would go out after the easter break, but rejection letters would arrive no later than March 15th. So now everyday we hope that there will be no letter from the school. His chances are good, but I will feel so much better once we have reached the end of this darned wait.

Over the last few days, I've received a wig (red and black), a spongebag (blue vinyl), a fountain pen (a Pilot 78g with a bold nib), and a few condoms. I'm waiting on a rubber hood and a tube of depilatory cream.

those once vanished in days of health and safety...accountability...andwhateverheckelse they feel necessary to cover their own back

I am glad that where I am from we don't have those over the top health and safety and whatever measures in place...we just use common sense in day to day life

though that being said, it seems to change there as well...usually they delivered mail to your new place when you moved within the village without making a fuss about it and without charging you for it...so if a mail was adressed wrong they just put it to your knew address as they were aware of it that you moved.

But recently they tried to charge a friend of mine who just moved 2 houses further in her street (she lived all her life in that street and just moved back into the house from her parents as she inherited it)...and then the were surprised she did not put up with that and offered them to keep that mail which was addressed to her old address when they are so desperate to start charging now

So it seems even in my ol lil village from 5000 people such madness is taking over slowly...

Ooooh I just received 2 antique rose bushes, a completely unexpected thank you gift from a friend. It just blew me away to open my door and find them waiting for me, my first rose bushes! One is named Eloise and the other is Charlie, sure hope I don't kill them.
