Gotta hand it to them Texans; they ain't afeared to admit how dumb they is. Them that's dumb, that is. Ain't sayin' they's all ignerint, but it do appear that a sizable number of them certainly be.

quote:

Nearly a third of Texans believe humans and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time, and more than half disagree with the theory that humans developed from earlier species of animals, according to the University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll. The differences in beliefs about evolution and the length of time that living things have existed on earth are reflected in the political and religious preference of our respondents, who were asked four questions about biological history and God: • 38 percent said human beings developed over millions of years with God guiding the process and another 12 percent said that development happened without God having any part of the process. Another 38 percent agreed with the statement "God created human beings pretty much in their present form about 10,000 years ago."

*sigh* well the good news (or bad, depending on how you look at it) is that there are probably a lot of other states with the same or worse percentages.

I cringe. It's both the good news and the bad news. Explains a lot about what a fucked up country this is when a third of the people living here have a 15-century education level.

Science education in this country sucks anteater dick.

I've had debated with the 10,000 year folks, only to find that they were working under a lot of misconceptions regarding evolution.

I'll tell you what's fuckin' scary - the USA is a global superpower whose government strongly affects the world and especially Europe and especially the UK which is pretty much the 51st state in almost every way - and every one of the American nitwits who dont have a basic grasp of the last few hundred years of science each have a say in who runs the USA and thence the western world, especially the UK.

Over the last century this hasnt been such a great problem since greater minds have dominated the US political scene, proferring from their midst candidates for government who aint nitwits, whether we like their ideas or not. But now we have a Republican party that seems to have somehow been taken over by nitwits - we saw what happened with Bush Jr in charge, and its only a matter of time before it happens again, to who knows what extreme as the nitwit ratio builds?

Government of the people, for the nitwits by the nitwits is rarely a happy proposition.

Yep. Texas, with only 38% believing that God created man in his present form within the past 10,000 years, is actually a bit progressive on this one....

And perhaps most importantly, most of the really ignorant ones want to educate every child in America down to their level of ignorance. That's the really scary part, in my opinion.

Absolutely. Bush, Palin, that whole crowd. This is who they are, right here. That's their political base talking.

You mean this is not true???

For added surrealism, I have the series premiere of the Ricky Gervais show playing on the tele and they were talking about exactly this as I found the photo. Weird.

A billion pieces of red representing the sky, total nightmare puzzle wise.
