ORIGINAL: domiguy This is a rather pointless conversation but there is much reliable testimony and accounts rom numerous sources that Jesus lived as did his disciples. Not really. All the historical accounts are fraught with holes. The Testimonium Flavianum is not accepted by anyone as genuine anymore. Tacitus' mention in Annals is not convincingly solid enough to suspect he acquired the information from actual Roman records. Suetonius uses a non-applicable, similar-sounding name variation. And those are normally the most solid of actual historical aids brought to the table to attempt to substantiate the actual historicity of Jesus. It's interesting, much of what I presented here was off of memory when I was curious and researched this topic. It has been a number of years ago. I never believed that the J-dude was the son of G, but I did kind of want to find out what all the hubbabaloo was about. I remember reading things about Pliny the younger and his letters regarding Christians and Christ. There were several other accounts of Jesus from sources that were not directly in the scope of his Christian influence. Can these sources be discounted? Sure. Are there people that have an agenda to invalidate or validate these claims...Sure. So I guess it comes down to a matter of faith.....Fuck, I'm screwed!!! ..lol. He is not the son of God!! There are a few things that tipped the scale in my believing that the J-guy lived. Part of it is the outside evidence....Maybe it can be discounted. Part of it, from my understanding, is that the bible is somewhat historically accurate. Maybe that is a great way to write fiction, with a blend of fact and fantasy? I am not sure...I think it does give some credibility to the story. Anyways, I believe that the J-man was a righteous and stellar dude! I believe that people ate his shit up. Then he was killed. Ta-dah! End of the story. But just like Elvis, people dug this guy. He was a rock star!! So they saw him all over the place even after his demise on thrown/cross. I believe it was Peter and Mary that carried on the torch of Christianity after the crucifixion. The stories were embellished and his legend grew. Jesus was not dumb...It was the flavor of the day to be a prophet. He saw Rome and what it was like to live in Rome. I believe that close to 50% of the pop were slaves or non Romans. One hell of an opportunity to start a ministry. Anywhoooo, so he lived or he didn't. Jesus please protect me form your followers, it's the best we all can hope for. Amen. The Jews, the Muslims acknowledge his existence they just don't think he was the big shabang..
