I have to warn everybody, I'm one of those moderate in the middle kind of guys. If it were up to me, I'd Hacksaw the ass ends off both the Donkey and Elephant, and come up with two headed Animal that could think straight and would'nt shit all all over the place.

Sanity -> RE: B-b-b-b-ut Bush did the same thing!!! (2/22/2010 7:21:24 AM)

The thing about Bush is, he was Bush. He never promised us the most open administration ever. His record on public speaking is nothing to compare, because he ran as who he was and he was elected as who he was, like him or not.

Obama ran as an uber elite super genius who would provide the most transparent administration ever. But what is he delivering? The exact opposite of that.

Keep on saying B-b-b-b-ush if you want, but Bush ain't the subject, and neither am I.

tazzygirl -> RE: B-b-b-b-ut Bush did the same thing!!! (2/22/2010 7:21:27 AM)

Sanity, do you really want to start comparing the two in this manner? Knoller keeps detailed records and isnt afraid to share them. Lets take for example vacations...

quote:

President Obama has spent all or part of 26 days "on vacation" during his first year as president, according to CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller.

President Reagan, in 1981, spent all or part of 42 days away from the White House "on vacation" at his home in Santa Barbara, Calif, according to Knoller

President George W. Bush spent even more time away from the presidential mansion in the nation’s capital than Reagan. Of the 77 total "vacation" trips the former president made to his Texas ranch while in office, nine of them — all or part of 69 days — came during his first year as president in 2001, according to Knoller.

Bush’s father, President George H.W. Bush, spent less time "on vacation" during his first year than his son, but spent more days than President Obama. According to travel records provided to FactCheck.org by the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the former president took six trips — spanning all or part of 40 days — to the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1989. The archivist at Bush’s presidential library told us she didn’t have a list of all vacations but did have the Kennebunkport visits.

But at least two recent presidents — by Knoller’s count — took less "vacation" time during their first year than President Obama — Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

According to Knoller, Carter spent just 19 days "on vacation" in 1977. Most of that time, Knoller says, the former president spent at his home in Plains, Ga. President Clinton took all or part of 174 days of vacation during his eight years as president — most of that "vacation" time was during the summer, according to Knoller. But Knoller says Clinton only took 21 "vacation" days during his first year.

It’s worth mentioning that President Obama has also made 11 trips — all or part of 27 days — to Camp David, the presidential retreat in Frederick County, Md. Knoller, however, says he doesn’t count trips to Camp David as part of any presidents’ "vacation" time. But for the sake of comparison, President George W. Bush, made more trips to that country residence than Obama. According to Knoller, Bush made 25 trips — a total of 78 days — to Camp David in 2001.

Well if you're making that type of comparison, noone I've seen compares to Dan Quayle -

"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure."

"Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child."

"The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century."

"I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy -- but that could change."

"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future."

"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."

"For NASA, space is still a high priority."

"Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children."

"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it."

rulemylife -> RE: B-b-b-b-ut Bush did the same thing!!! (2/22/2010 8:21:59 AM)

I don't know, myself I think the difference is that Quayle did not have the power Bush did.  It is funny, but it is also scary to hear someone who was setting the nation's policies who could not even articulate those policies:

Obama trumped all your "Bushisms" combined when at his most recent press conference our supposedly "post-racial" president proved how race-centric he actually is by attacking that white Boston policeman before all the facts were in.

He was so embarrassed by that massive blunder that he hasn't held a press conference ever since.

I guess you could make teh argument that he restored honor and dignity to teh structure every time he left for one of his vacations but otherwise....

C'mon Sanity.

The double standard is beautiful. The president of hope and change enjoys the best of both arguments. When it comes to national security, "we are following the same procedures as the Bush administration." When it comes to information getting out "we control the message" and why would they want to subject the president to random questions that could come from the press pool.

I really like the way they are handling the "no torture" pledge. I am not sure if it is that they are doing things like the last administration or if they are counting having Afghanis and Pakistanis doing the torturing as a different policy.
