My Mistake
You came along when I never expected you
We met on an off chance
Through a friend's reaching out to make you happy
Fears
Fears from my past
Fears I could not let go of easily
Fears of letting someone else in
Trust
Trust I don't give lightly
Trust, something which should be earned
Trust that one thing that would take time
I let my guard down
You were everything I wanted in life
The love you had to give
The love I had longed to grasp
I had never experienced before
I didn't know how to act
My questions went unanswered
My fears just grew stronger
My mistake
My jumping to conclusions
Without foundation
All from a past
A past filled with pain and deception
That's all I knew
All I expected
I didn't expect true love
Though I implored you
It just wasn't enough
