ORIGINAL: TheHeretic Exactly. News stories of the time, far enough from the events to tell the whole story, but old enough to come without the filters which were applied later to coverage of both individuals (he as the "Messiah," she as the "one who must be despised.") That President Obama was smart enough to wear a rubber doesn't change who he chose to hop into bed with. So, let's take a closer look here. Obama had real estate dealings with Rezko, long before Rezko had even been accused of anything, much less indicted. Was Obama supposed to have clairvoyant powers? Should he have hired private detectives to investigate a man he had no reason to suspect of any impropriety? And let's be clear, what Rezko was in legal trouble for had absolutely nothing to do with his real estate deals with Obama. Now let's look at Palin and the allegations of a quid pro quo arrangement in her awarding of contracts to build the Wasilla sports complex in exchange for having a new house built for her family: http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/10/11/hous. Daily Kos: I Think It's Housegate Actually some of the legal trouble that Rezko was in and convicted of had did have to do with his dealings with Obama. Whether it was grants that Obama presented and voted for while on the Woods Fund, and or legislation that was written that did benefit his friend and major donor. As to the reason nothing formal was done is a mystery, even to those that followed the case. quote:
Feds planned to link Obama-Rezko The onetime political mentor and fundraiser for Obama, especially in the early days of his Illinois political career, arranged for a series of so-called straw political contributions to Obama, money from Rezko channeled through other people's names. Obama has since donated an equal sum to charities. According to published reports in the Chicago Sun-Times, recently unsealed documents show prosecutors intended to call several witnesses who would tie Rezko to Obama. The federal judge ruled that they could. "Witnesses will testify that Rezko was a long-standing supporter and fund-raiser of Barack Obama," one prosecutor wrote in their planning notes. But for unexplained reasons, they ended up not calling those witnesses. Sorry for the continued hijack. Oh and if the charges against Palin are accurate then she should be charged with any applicable crimes and prosecuted.
