Brain -> GOP illegally silencing Tea Parties (2/22/2010 10:22:34 PM)

Politics is a crusty business.  What a despicable thing for the Republican elite to do. At least the tea party people would not give our money to Wall Street crooks; I’d vote for tea party people over Republicans now.   I will never vote Republican.

GOP illegally silencing Tea Parties

The Republican State Central Committee in Illinois is instructing its County Chairmen to illegally stack the deck against Tea Party reformers in the March 3rd elections.

The Tea Party movement has spent the last year recruiting new Precinct Committeeman candidates to take back the Republican Party for actual grassroots conservatives. But the votes of these newly-elected officials are now going to be nullified as County Chairmen across the state exercise their made-up, non-existent right to vote vacant precincts however they see fit.

The law--Illinois Election Code at 10 ILCS 5/7-8(a)--is clear:

Each elected ward, township or precinct committeeman shall cast as his vote one vote for each ballot voted in his ward, township, part of a township or precinct in the last preceding primary election of his political party.

There is nothing about County Chairmen being able to vote the vacancies. It is not mentioned or even implied. This bastardization of the law turns everything upside down from what was intended and renders the rightfully-elected Precinct Committeemen meaningless--especially in a state with such enormous percentages of the precincts still vacant.

Here is the contact information for those breaking the law to protect the establishment party elites from the will of the people.

Unfortunately for the Tea Partiers and most everybody else...we all pay wall street and continue to send our 401K's, IRA's and Keogh's to those thieves.

There should be a move to prohibit that money from going to wall street unless subscribers specifically request it.

All of that money should by default, go into tax free munies (municipal bonds) and just rolled over.

Moonhead -> RE: GOP illegally silencing Tea Parties (2/23/2010 5:04:56 AM)

The Elephant can't have a bunch of singhle issue teabaggers having any say in how the GOP is run, brain. If the members stop marching in lockstep they'll be in the same heterogenous mess as the Democrats, and then how will they be able to force everything Palin proposes through both houses in 2012, however big a majority they have?

Brian, the article you cited did state that the Illinois GOP granted itself the authority to basically override any votes from the people's representatives in precincts.  It did not mention the tea partiers although I agree that that's a distinct possibility that the GOP may try to quash them.

If they do, they'll be playing with fire.  I'd expect a lawsuit seeking to overturn the results.
