My hatred of people is entirely based on  the individual performance, regardless of race, creed, color or gender.

And I generally lean more toward loathing rather than hatred.

I am a mellow kinda guy that way.

You sound like George Carlin, when he said he liked people well enough in twos or threes, but anything larger than that, and people started wearing armbands and choosing up sides.

I just don’t see misandry as out of balance in the media or world. I see plenty of misogyny and chauvinism in the media with plenty of T-shirts to back it up. Admittedly films like Salo: 120 Days of Sodom are supposed to create ill feelings towards the dominant protagonists in the story. But it was a symbolic political statement in the guise of a major motion picture about BDSM and you were supposed to hate those in control. Western society may be more sexually conservative. The US is one of the few nations that doesn’t have nudity on public TV. But I don't think we a gateway for misandry.

[image]http://residentsadist.com/rsdraft/pics-movies/salo.jpg[/image]

You speak of Jabba the Hutt. When I think of Jabba, I think of how he started as a spice smuggler and worked his way up to a seat of power. That seat came complete with frog serving slave wenches and sexy tentacle head bitches on chain but he wasn’t a Dominant BDSM style figure. Roots had plenty of slaves on a chain but it wasn’t about BDSM. Anyway, like the southerners in Roots, most of the Hutt species kept servants.

[image]http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/thumb/d/dd/Jabba_22BBY.jpg/800px-Jabba_22BBY.jpg[/image]

Luke started the chaos that saved Leia. During the chaos, she shorted out the lighting gear distracting Jabba, jumped his tail, wrapped her slave chain around his neck and strangle him to death. Even after his death, she was still his captive and was freed from her restraints by R2-D2. Everybody dies, it is how you live, and Jabba had a good life from hosting the races, fathering his son Rotta to the capture of his adversaries . . . which is what eventually cost him his life.

There is a lot of BDSM portrayed in the major motion pictures and indy movies alike. The Dom/mes, subs and etc run the gamut in a spectrum of roles from misogynist, misandrist to plain ol' Joes and Janes. My movie list is a little different than LA’s.

Vendaval -> RE: What About Misandry? (2/24/2010 2:24:42 AM)

quote:

ORIGINAL: Dominasola

Is this lack of the portrayal of a positive male dominant in entertainment because of misandry?

You are kidding right?  All the cops and soldiers and heroes don't count as male dominants?

Is it because of the empowerment of the female, or because of the dehumanization of the male?

Popular entertainment is dehumanizing to everyone involved; the talent, the producers and the audience.  Whatever will potentially sell the most is created, distributed and promoted.

Why is it okay to depict a woman flogging a man, but the opposite would be seen as abuse (even if it is consensual)?

Because of the general disparity between male and female upper body strength and the all too common problem of domestic violence.

And perhaps as an extension of these questions, is misandry present in BDSM as a whole?

Not in my experience.

Have (straight) female dominants ever felt that they are actively adding to the popular mentality of misandry by performing acts that may be perceived as dehumanizing or demonizing men?

Not in my experience.

Have (straight) male dominants ever felt pressure from society for being in a position of power that is not generally accepted anymore?

I cannot answer for others.

I have noticed that there seems to be more than in the past of fem subs who are not interested in single Men or only Fem Doms or insist there be a Fem Dom in the relationship. Maybe there is some unconscience misandry creeping into BDSM and D/s. But I wouldnt go so far to say girls not into Men are victims of misandry.

.....and it doesn't occur to you that somebody who is bisexual and into being with a couple might just be, you know, bisexual and into being with a couple?  Where the hell do you get misandry out of that?

I'm heteroflexible.  I don't hate women, or discriminate against them, but I am not interested in single women as play partners.  I would consider a couple, because that's more in line with my personal sexual preferences.  Explain to me how this could possibly make me a misogynist?

ordinary -> RE: What About Misandry? (2/24/2010 12:05:52 PM)

I enjoy classic movies because the men hold strong leads. They are protective, charismatic, charming, witty, and know how to dress. What changed? The TIMES.

The saying about the pendelum is right. Look back at the old black and white movies and you see they're rampant with male leads who have very strong, somewhat dominant characters that even transfer over to the public's view of their personal lives.

Carry Grant comes to mind. So does Bogart. Hell, even more recently we've been blessed with talent like Harrison Ford, Richard Gere, and George Clooney.

In entertainment (my emphasis) its about just that.. and Hollywood.. and nothing actually all that truthful or real... so the use the mainstream archetype which is always the black latex clad (or similar) dominatrix with either a whip or crop...

I don't think it has a thing to do with misandry, empowerment, or dehumanization.. its just not that deep.. its about sensationalism and what sells...

I agree. It's just what sells, that's all.

Women have survived the negative representations made about them by the media throughout the years, and I strongly believe men are tough enough to survive them too.

Au contraire - women can hate women, so the 'nick' wouldn't be a contradiction, when a Domme used it .  Besides, doesn't oxymoron refer to a phrase?  I mean, I'm just sayin' . .

I would be more respectful to a Domme named "MisAnthrope".

Lorenzo19 -> RE: What About Misandry? (2/24/2010 10:32:04 PM)

Misandry is just like any other hatred: the people doing it will never admit to it. And if they do they will justify it endlessly with weak evidence. To prove they are actually doing us all a favor.

No, it is any figure of speech that combines contraditory terms, like jumbo shrimp, serious joke.

In this case though, the term isn't really moronic as the juxtaposition of the two terms does not create a paradox.

I agree with LadyA..........very untrue. I hate people that are purposely obtuse and will gladly admit it. No evidence required, weak or not. I also hate narrow minded people, people that are always negative, people that blame others for their problems, people that run through life with an excuse book as to why they fail at everything.........and so on.
