If you ignore the silly "reparations" claim, Rush has a point. The people benefiting from it will be more skewed towards minorities than the folks who already have health care. Not that that makes a difference. If there is a universal right to health care, it must of course be colorblind.

Reread my post. I did not speak in absolutes. I said that the population not receiving health care is more skewed towards minorities than those who do. But I still think that the biggest benefits will be the HMOs.

Having a job with benefits, as opposed to no job or one without, is one of the differences between the haves and the have-nots in the US today. Extending health are to all would narrow that gap. And it would be paid for from some entity that would ultimately be funded through taxes or through some shift in premiums. Either way, the haves would be helping the have-nots pay.

If anyone has been paying attention to the rising cost of health care and health insurance it becomes increasingly clear that in the not-so-distant future everyone will be priced out of the market... today it is the poor that must go without, tomorrow it will be you going without. I suppose those whining about "paying for other people" will perhaps have a different attitude when it is their ass lining up at a free clinic paid for by philanthropic people like my Daddy... Before the Grace of whatever-higher-power you believe in go I... This system needs to be fixed. Health insurance companies make money by denying care to sick people. Sick people are already a vulnerable population without much recourse to fight back. In my opinion health insurance companies are blood sucking leeches profiting from the suffering of others and causing the suffering of others. This is definitely something that needs to go over into the public services sector like our justice system is....

I don't (usually) click on the clips of him ranting, because I watched an interview of good ole Rush bragging how easy it is for him to yank the media's chain (note...NOT yank a republicans chain, or a democrats chain, or anyones chain but the media's. I was talking about our politicians, and yes they do funnel multimillion dollar "bonuses" to all sorts of pet projects and donors (tax exemptions or contracts). How much money do you thing is spent administering the various medicare and medicaid programs, how about denying claims, or denying services for various reasons? Of course these politicians spend millions every couple years to get elected so that they can hold on to $140k a year job. There is nothing in it for them. The easiest way to maintain power is to create a problem and have the people keep coming back to you for treatments. Most Americans now believe that the politicians are bound to the special interests and biggest donors and not to we the people (shareholders).

Throw some support behind that, Thadius. You know, I had a choice which insurance plan I wanted--several HMOs, and a state run plan. I went with the state plan, even though it costs more and is sometimes a tangle of forms. It has more choice, and I trust the state more than the HMOs. And given the mess our state is in, that's saying something. But I have no complaints about the care at all. Trouble is, if I stopped doing that work, that insurance would be gone (short of very expensive COBRA). I think I should always have that affordable choice, and so should everyone else.

I asked for specifics... not these generalized statements. By every measure countries with socialized medicine pay less and live longer. There is no need for a middle man to deny coverage... why are we paying health insurance companies to ration care for us? Here is the thing, we have government to provide the services to us that private industry find little profit in providing, especially when one pencils in the start up costs... such is the case with electrifying the South and with building dams. If the private sector cannot provide the services they are paid to render because it is too expensive for them, well it is time for them to get the fuck out of business and let the people take over. That is where we are now. I resent strongly that these mutha fuckas take people's hard earned money to insure their health year after year, and then when the chips are down and they need to cash in on their policy the insurance companies make them fight it or just find ways to renege on the entire thing. They are not straight up, they have unfair practices, they are unethical, and they have to be stopped because they are harming people, innocent hard working people who pay their way in life. It is not like these people have their hands out, they paid their premiums. I can give link after link of instances where insurance companies deal in bad faith with the people they are supposed to be serving for the almighty dolla, I am asking for you to document a country that has socialized medicine that does the same to their people.
