When many people say "I don't like rap" what they're saying is that they don't like culture and aesthetic that surrounds it. No, when I say I don't like rap I mean I don't like Rap...it has nothing to do with the culture or aesthetic that surrounds it. I don't like it period. I hear very little difference between one artist and another, and even less difference between songs by any given artist, it all sounds pretty much the same to me. The lyrics are often good when read as poetry, but I just don't like the way it is presented. It isn't about racism or cultural elitism, its just a matter of taste. Haha, it's more of an observation of what you find "familiar", your momtha might have been the worst cook in the world, but it'd be hard to tell cause momah's cook'n is still "holy" to any child, cause it's what's familiar. that's what most cultures variation boil down too lol, who or what you're comfortable with lol quote:
ORIGINAL: BrokenSaint I dip into everything. If my playlist could talk the first words out of its mouth would be Nomen mihi legio est, quia multi sumus Though I do have my favorites. Mostly those fall into the goth/punk/industrial/techno areas. Might ya be a units fan lol? (think hardcore devo) quote:

ORIGINAL: GreedyTop I listen to many kinds of music, some with more pleasure than others. Rap/hip-hip stuff I dont really GET. WHat would LInkin Park be classed as? I like them.... Think of it this way.. In each genre, the lead singer's voice imitates the most important intstrument. In metal, the singer wails just like a lead guitar. In Jazz , the singer croons like a saxophone. In opera, the fat lady's voice is high and powerful, perhaps like a violin. In hip-hop, the most important instrument is the drum. Therefore, the value is in the rhythm of the rapper's voice, as opposed to the tone. The reason say, Eminem is so popular is not because he can make two sentences that rhyme at the end, but because of the complex cadence of his rhymes. This is the reason that people from other countries love rap music, even though they often don't understand english. Linkin Park is essentially doing the same thing, just with a different spin. When many people say "I don't like rap" what they're saying is that they don't like culture and aesthetic that surrounds it. GOOD hip-hop? Let's see... Schaffer the Dark Lord: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clcZah3P4cs Talib Kweli http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVtpXvzzXiA Chamillionaire (he's the artist the Weird Al parodied in White and Nerdy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGOt8dZRsHk And most of ICP does indeed suck, but in 15 + albums, they have maybe 20 songs that are actually good. Never heard it put quiet like that, but now that you mention it, i kinda see a correlation to most "rappers" phonetical pacing to be a bit drum and bassy(not going to mention the genre of drum and bass...not enough cough syrup or other intoxicants to discuss that eh..."music") and speaking of "white and nerdy", that schaffer the dark lord is hilariously 'nerdcore', but i think Bo burnam has him beat on word play
