Any random things you wished you had that you'd care to share? I already have tape, scissors, a door sign plus a lot of more normal things. All suggestions appreciated, I'm so excited!!!!

Tweezers. On no account should you leave dry land without tweezers, or you will get a splinter. Murphy's law, and all that.

TSA took my tweezers out of my grooming kit the last cruise I went on. Go figure.

And did your skin survive unbesplintered? Maybe the intention of bringing tweezers with you was enough to placate the Splinter Bitch Goddess Sirens of the Sea...

Oooooh, Cozumel.  One of my favorite places to snorkel.  There is a State Beach there where the reef comes right up to the land.  I bob like a cork, so most snorkeling is lost on me, since I can't get down deep enough to see a dang thing before I pop to the surface again.  At this beach, you walk right out into the reef & the fish are all right there.  I will pass on a tip: it was recommended to me that when I saw the baby barracuda & was following it to get a closer look that I shouldn't do that, since even baby barracudas have big teeth & will bite.  *sigh*

I agree with the snorkeling on Cozumel, best ever! I don't remember the name of the group in the shore excursions list that we went with, but they were awesome. They had an antique, double-decker boat, and the dive-master actually dove down and rousted crabs and colorful fish out from under the rocks for us, unlike on other trips where they just left us to our own hijinks.

This was in 2007 after a major hurricane had gone through and pretty much wiped out most of the original reef. Hopefully, a lot of it has begun reforming.

bring the lube.

I wish I was going to.   I look real good on a ship.   I do - I do- I swear I do.  ;-0

HisSweetElysium -> RE: leaving for a cruise on Sat (2/26/2010 8:29:46 AM)

LOL I am going with my straight "girl who is a friend", no Master, so no need for lube. The two of us are a bit on the diva end of things, so there is no room for stow aways in our luggage, only shoes!

but there will be men on the ship.   :-)

Master would def not approve. [:D]

RE snorkeling, we're going scuba diving (my first time, SO excited) in Belize, and doing a beach break in Costa Maya. Cozumel I think we're going to snorkel right off the beach, cheaper that way and still amazing from what I recall. I have an underwater camera a friend lent to me, and I can't wait to use it!

Oh and those barracuda, really you got bit? I've been down there many times and seen them, but they never messed with me. Those teeth are pretty damned intimidating though, so I kinda went the other way.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: leaving for a cruise on Sat (2/26/2010 12:36:51 PM)

The barracuda didn't bite me, but my friend pulled me away from it.  I just wanted a closer look, since I had never seen one before.  She thought that my moving toward it might make it believe I was going to attack it or something.  I did get numerous bites on my legs from really tiny fish very close to the shore.  I was telling my friend that I was being bitten but I was also giggling about it, so I don't think she really believed me til & brought my leg out of the water & it was bleeding.  This was not the first time that I had teensy fishes biting my legs.  Apparently they find them attractive.  [8D]

If either of you are bringing mobile phones, make sure you check with your carrier to see what the rates are for all the countries you're visiting, plus the rates for the cruise ship. This is definitely a category where you're better safe than sorry.
