I didn't use a collar as a relationship symbol in my previous D/s relationships (5 years as a Domme, and 3 years as a submissive). Once I'd heard of them being used that way, I thought it was one of those weird online conventions, like slashy speak and ungrammatical capitalisation. In my relationship with my Master, I wear his collar while we are together, but he hasn't chosen to give me any physical symbol to wear when we are apart. We've been dating for a year now, and he has owned me since June.
