I can't agree.  Blanket statements for such a wildly diverse group of people who fall under an umbrella (that not even everyone can agree to call it in the first place) of BDSM/ D/S/ WIITWD can't possibly be applied.

That's like saying that everyone who remains in an unhappy marriage is a masochist.  [:D]

OriginallyFromLA -> RE: I say we are just a bunch of drug addicts (2/26/2010 10:16:48 AM)

Thanks everybody. I knew that would ruffle at least a few feathers, but I wanted to gauge the response. "Addicted" was a hard word but I wanted to see what the general reaction would be. As usual, all over the place.

Hope nobody was too offended.

With all of the posts relating to sub drop, controll of emotions, love etc... I just wanted to blow everyone away on this fine Friday.

Thanks for the respones. All of them. [:)]

And special thanks to steff that pointed out my omission of "Highness". It was done on purpose, but I am going to fix that right now!

OP, with this post you've now crossed over from 'vaguely irritating' to 'actually annoying' in my head. What you seem to be saying is that you started this thread just in order to wind people up.

How old are you? Five?

DesFIP -> RE: I say we are just a bunch of drug addicts (2/26/2010 10:41:49 AM)

I'm not. We don't do s & m so no endorphin release. He doesn't allow me to go into subspace as he wants me there and active. So nothing on that front either.

Play for us is sexual and involves bondage because it makes the sexual release more intense. But I'm submissive to him even when we don't play and haven't for months.

Sanguinarian -> RE: I say we are just a bunch of drug addicts (2/26/2010 12:02:46 PM)

OP... dude... you suck. Badly. Which is more of an insult than I can explain.

Just to get a reaction, huh? That sounds like something my two year old son would do. Just to see what happens.

Ye mind telling us just why you felt you had to jerk us all around? I for one want to know, so I have plenty of ammunition for your character assassination later.

Musicmystery -> RE: I say we are just a bunch of drug addicts (2/26/2010 12:04:40 PM)

I run or ski, depending on season, an hour or two almost every day.

Now that's endorphins, especially the second hour.

Not really, you just amused many of us with your "what I experience must be true for everyone" narcissism.

Many of us rarely if ever play with endorphins.

*grinz*  Nice try but my feelings were far from being ruffled.

Well, I knew that my tone would piss a lot of people off. I even talked about it with a friend here (yes I actually have one) who advised me not to make the post. Sure I could have broached the subject in a more benign way, but what the hell, we're all adults right? (except maybe me).

Anyone who has ever read an essay on why it's ok for starving people in impoverished, overpopulated, countries to eat their children will recognize my first post as merely a literary device meant to outrage and a few of you did.

This topic has been covered from all angles EXCEPT the "drug" reaction level.

I think that "Love", endorphin high, sub drop, control of emotions, etc... are all just part of the same chemical process that occurs in our brains. And I think that scening, punishment, Dominant behavior and submissive behavior, (and I am talking speciffically what each person does to express that behavior) is a tool that people use, often without even knowing it, to turn on the faucet so to speak. People that have recognized themselves as a submissive or a dominant will behave in a way that not only pleases their partner but also themselves, but on a more than vanilla level.

And I'm not saying that is bad at all!

Sub-space or head-space is just the faucet on full blast. But a lot of you have 24X7 relationships. Can you honestly say to me that you DON'T get any satisfaction from taking the role you do? If you do I'm saying it's because your body is producing a chemical that it likes so you in turn act and react in such a way that you get more. Not full blast all the time, but a constant trickle.

So my question is for the people that agree with me, does knowing it help you control it in a positive way? Or does it diminish the experience.  And for those that disagree, does the thought of reducing it to a chemical reaction diminish it in your mind. Or does that cause you to consider that you may be able to think of new ways to intensify the experience that you may have otherwise not considered?

I could have been boring and opened with this post but, I'm a jerk that way.[8D]  So don't hate me because I'm beautiful when there are soooo many othe reasons[:)]

Understand that even when I was in a 24/7 dynamic, that endorphin rush was produced in a myriad of ways and not always from any type of sensation play which my former owner chose to employ. I still got that same effect from eating chocolate, or taking an hour or so for meditation or simply the act of serving the one who owned me.

Far too often the cold hard reality take precedence and prevents me from seeking more intense ways to increase that endorphin rush. I am the first one to admit that a sense of personal danger is a quick trigger for that intense rush of endorphins yet the logical reasoning over rides any compulsion, 98% of the time, to engage in activities where I'd be charged with public indecency or actually placing myself in a life threatening situation.

You are an annoyance, as far as I'm concerned. I doubt anyone on these boards considers you important enough to deserve their hatred, though...

RedMagic1 -> RE: I say we are just a bunch of drug addicts (2/26/2010 2:41:31 PM)

OriginallyFromLA, it's been clear to me for a while that you don't really know what you're doing.  And, I guarantee, that's OK.  In fact, I almost have a "self-cluelessness fetish," because, in virtually every area of my life, I try to do more, and explore differently, than I did last week or last year.

However, I don't try to mask my cluelessness by claiming that everyone around me is a puppet dancing to my wordstrings -- and I don't try to claim my message board have the rhetorical caliber of Johnathan Swift, either.  Those seem like symptoms of insecurity to me, and I think you'd be better served by just asking questions, and saying you don't know the answer.  I learn things that I was wrong about, or could do better at, every day of my life.  People who don't are either perfect, or dense.

Of course it was done on purpose, you feather-ruffler you.  However, it wasn't the only error.

This is the sort of thing that makes me laugh when people equate age with maturation. We often accuse teenagers of being so self involved that they thing they are the first to do, think, or say anything. NO TOPIC in bdsm hasn't been beaten to death. Not over the last 30 years, not since the internet, and frankly not since last week on CM...

And to think otherwise is hubris on a level even I doubt I could achieve.

No, but it does mean you've learned to cope with reality minus the need for alternative substances.

We're a dying breed.  Or perhaps, there is no place left to go. lol

Bullshit. You posted something you believed, then when realizing most found your views stupid, are now pretending (badly, I might add) that this was all some grand ruse; which in itself is pretty pathetic. [8|]

LadyPact -> RE: I say we are just a bunch of drug addicts (2/26/2010 5:02:21 PM)

Personally, I considered Myself as not agreeing with you, so I'll take that angle.

No, it doesn't diminish it to Me at all.  I already understand the process of chemical flow in the brain (to a very small extent) so you weren't telling Me something that I didn't know in the original.  As I stated earlier, the same result can be obtained from other natural and unnatural means.  While I consider that to be a wonderful thing when related to BDSM, I'm also just as aware that other things bring it about as well.  Speaking as someone who does do this on multiple levels (dynamic as well as casual play) I can promise you that there are some of us out here who aren't attempting to recapture the 'wow' of the first high (endorphin rush) and we're not trying to outdo the 'best' high.

Now, let Me explain something else to you.  Whether you intended it to be or not (I know what you said in your follow up) at least some of what you've written here, well....... you're full of shit.  After experiencing your first D/s dynamic, where you got to do all of these things for the first time and now it's over, there is something in there that is trying to reconcile itself.  You didn't have it for forty some odd years, then suddenly you had it, and now you don't.  Do you really think nobody else out there has been in that exact same spot?  A whole new world got opened up to you, and then it went away.  I suppose you could see it as withdraw from your standpoint.  I've been in the same position, but I didn't see it the same way as you do.  However, I've been close enough to recognize it.

Let Me give you some advice that you didn't ask for.  Knock off the bravado.  While you are trying to figure all of this out, you have to understand that you are in a confused state.  Coming to terms with the new world isn't always easy when the very ground the new world is based on seems to have slipped away.  You don't really have the grasp on everything that you think you do.
