Interesting new political group, I noticed tody in a WaPo article. It's called the Coffee Party, and is intended to counter the Tea Party- not just in point of view, but in composition. It is a citizen-based (as opposed to lobbyist based) group.

MISSION: The Coffee Party Movement gives voice to Americans who want to see cooperation in government. We recognize that the federal government is not the enemy of the people, but the expression of our collective will, and that we must participate in the democratic process in order to address the challenges that we face as Americans. As voters and grassroots volunteers, we will support leaders who work toward positive solutions, and hold accountable those who obstruct them

Far too many sub factions:

Americano Party
Caffè Corretto Party
Caffè Latte Party
Caffè Lungo Party
Caffè Macchiato Party
Cappuccino party
Coffee Party
Espresso Party
Ristretto Party

I don't know how any of the above parties differ but apparently they have unique core values.

Interesting. The democrats are dead to me -- I was too young for Clinton really to understand how much of a douche bag he and his party is; for Obama, it's abundantly clear.

There was a non-negligible amount of real grassroots support for Obama's campaign; now that disillusionment is setting in, that energy can be redirected somewhere productive.

Also, the myth that individual members of congress cannot effect change is effectively busted.

the election in November might be canceled.

in October the powers that be might take down the economy-

of course-  everything is fine- so no worries.  (lol)

I don't know about that, I watched that Blair house project and it was very entertaining, especially the bit where something was dripping from Paul Ryan's nose.

If you are fed up with the big two, sit down and take inspiration from your beverage. Will nobody vote for the beer party I ask?

So, it's a fantasy Role Playing Group? Or I suppose a group of  people who have a collective will to give bankers and mega-corps financial and legislative advantage?

Confused... Federal Government = Good.  Does not compute.

I suggest you read what they have posted on their website, it is a bit eye opening. Definitely, not a middle of the road indie movement. They are without a doubt left of center, and the actress that heads up the LA branch is pretty well connected....

Just sayin.

There isn't anything up there, there is the one mission statement which is vague. Some youtube videos, the only one of which that says anything being the veteran. The veteran says he is pro-bailout, and says something needs to be done about health care and the debt accumulation he was apparently for but doesn't offer any real suggestions. Then there are links to external sites.

Thadius -> RE: Coffee Party USA (2/27/2010 11:13:21 AM)

I should have been more specific, look under the "cutting through the noise" tab.

Those are links to other sites, they don't state what they endorse in those links. Sure you can infer, but they don't actually have any content on www.coffeepartyuse.com. It's like the Brain of political movements. Links, Links, Links. With one paragraph of actual produced content. LOL.

I'm saying where do they actually say we are for this or that.

is that funny or what?

yeh you can always tell a good propaganda bullshit story on its face.

Did you listen to the union adddress?  LOL

AnimusRex -> RE: Coffee Party USA (2/27/2010 5:41:33 PM)

The Coffee Party group doesn't have a specific agenda or ideology, other than asserting a citizen's voice, as opposed to a corporate/ lobbyist one.

They began as a counter to what they saw as a false populism of the Tea Party, since the Tea Party is bankrolled and directed by Dick Armey's lobbying firm.

Although there is no specific partisan affiliation, most of the people joining and commenting are liberal in outlook. The clear directives from the founders are respectful, civil dialogue based on facts, not angry emotion.
As Annabelle Park (the founder) stated, the government can't operate without our votes- despite all the corporate cash, the one thing nobody can do is force our votes.

But I will let you guys know what I think, after I attend my first meeting tomorrow in LA.

Some 16,000 people have joined in the last 30 hours. Its definitely getting some buzz.

Thadius -> RE: Coffee Party USA (2/27/2010 5:54:05 PM)

Looking forward to your update. Have a good time at it.

Do me one favor, count how many times you hear the word progressive.[;)]

AnimusRex -> RE: Coffee Party USA (2/28/2010 3:55:47 PM)

As promised, an update:

I went to the meeting in the Silverlake area of LA, and there were about 25 people there.

the word progrssive was mentioned about 5 times, by my count. The words "citizen" and "democracy" were used many more times.
We had a couple military veterans, a few college students, but mostly 30-40 something professionals, mostly amateurs to political organizing.

The group is growing fast; it didn't even exist 5 weeks ago, and now has about 37,000 members on its Facebook site (as of 3:45 this afternoon PST).

We spoke a lot about our motives; the most common theme was frustration that the Teabaggers were claiming to represent mainstream America, when we feel like they don't represent us at all.

We overwhelmingly agreed we want to be part of something positive, something constructive that is based on shared community values. That is, we want to stop the thinking of "whats in it for me" but instead, "whats in it for all of us".

We agreed that we are willing to side with any party, Republican or Democrat, as long as they are putting forward positive constructive solutions for the entire community, not just a narrow segment or special interest.

I am now working with another person to head up my local chapter.

All in all, a terrific thing to feel a part of!

juliaoceania -> RE: Coffee Party USA (2/28/2010 4:29:21 PM)

Hey, I joked around about this a long time ago... I feel robbed! Oh hell, instead of feeling robbed, maybe I will join it[:D]
