Disclaimer: My hope for how this thread goes, says to put it in Off Topic. My head tells me there is no chance of it being non-political.

Domiguy asked recently what a conservative can find on TV that isn't an assault on their beliefs. South Park came up. So I'm surfing a bit this morning, and come across a Huffington Post piece interviewing Matt and Trey.

Much has been written about the politics behind "South Park" and what ideologies these men subscribe to. In 2005 a book was even released called "South Park Conservatives," arguing that Matt and Trey embody the modern revolt against the liberal media and all it breeds. What do they think of that?
"It was just lame, that's exactly what we're talking about--people trying to claim the show," said Matt, who in 2005 announced "I hate conservatives, but I really fucking hate liberals." When I asked him about the quote, Trey responded, "It's all based on saying the shocking thing. We used to have a great time going to Hollywood parties and saying 'I think George Bush is doing a great job.' We'd clear out the room. I used to love it."

The show doesn't make me laugh until it hurts as often as it used to, and the lame rate is way up, but by God, it was fun for a few years.

Sometimes that show is fucking great...but you're right, the lameness factor predominates these days. But then again it can't be easy coming up with good stuff week after week for 13 odd years, so I cut them some slack.

South Park takes jabs at everyone. The satire is shocking, distasteful and politically incorrect on purpose. Bless their hearts.

I think you miss the point as to why anyone regardless of political affiliation would love this show, because it trashes everyone. What political point do you think it makes?

Matt Stone and Trey Parker are in my Cohort, meaning they are within 4 years of me. I love this show partially because I get little tiny references that go back to pop culture when I was a little kid, stuff my son doesn't see and stuff Sinergy doesn't always see... because it happened in the later 1970s early 1980s to kids the same age as me (example, the way they animated the kids in The Red Sleigh Down episode).

I think the point is that neither the right nor the left can claim South Park for their own.... and that is what continues to make me a fan of this show. Nothing they do offends me.
