Julia....

I am having a hard time following you now, as you move into realone type tactics(silly words with no real meaning).

What "Free Pass"?

California doesn't pay anything. The taxpayers do. And there are millions of them in California, and a 150k in Ak. Which distorts the Averages.

"kitty"??

And one more time, it is a combination of low numbers of taxpayers combined with heavy federal spending on federal projects (millitary, land management, and research) that causes the averages to look the way they do.

In no way am I "stating that Alaska gets a free pass because of all the military and national park spending... " You made that up.

I am stating that the cited article says that Millitary spending per capita is the largest determinant. And it does. I notice you don't attempt to dispute it.

And I am stating that a "blue state" is a the top of the list not a red one, which is again indisputable.

No there are not, there are many states that have no national parks or military bases...

California National Parks (BTW, ours actually have personnel at them and must be maintained because they are actually USED)

http://ceres.ca.gov/ceres/calweb/npu.html

California military bases... I think we might have more than any other state

http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/statefacts/blca.htm

haha, I live in california between the largest military base and a giant national park, not to mention that most of the population here is on the dole one way or the other, yet oddly nuff it's a very "red" region, guess all that government money pouring in just makes ya want to stop it lol

An incorrect guess... LA Harbor is the busiest port on the West Coast

and then loaded on a different boat up to Alaska. But the reason you have huge ports is to service the interior of the country (the "Red States").

You do know my Daddy is a longshoreman in LA Harbor.... you remembered this, right?

You are incorrect

Again if you have 10,000 local taxpayers per coast guard base(or park, millitary base, or federal research facility) compared to 1,000,000 local taxpayers. It makes the averages look wierd. Do you not get that?

I get that military bases are good for their locales economically speaking.. same goes for Alaska as for California... the same goes for National Park spending.. it is a boon for you guys up their, it aids your economy.

And Again!!! I am not asserting that Millitary bases are the factor. The cited article in the OP does.

The point of the matter is red states benefit disproportionately to the blue in fed spending, instead of being grateful for this wealth redistributing, they get pissed off about their taxes... perhaps they should send back all those fed dollars and take care of their own needs,..... all of them, like defending themselves, schooling their kids, etc etc etc.. I am more than happy to see the red states start their own country

Here's the thing---

16 of the 17 states that pay more than they get, all except Texas, were blue states in the 2008 election. They are the ones I can understand complaining, but they aren't.

33 states---2/3 of the states!--BENEFIT from the "big government" "tax and spend" policies, and yet they're the red states screaming against it. If they succeeded in killing it, they'd immediately have less money.

Are they just nuts? Ignorant? Just repeating what their leaders tell them to say?

They are voting against their own self-interest.

Once again, it doesnt have a fucking thing to do with whether a state is red or blue. It is highly correlated to population density because denser state tax revenues are high due to population and the presence of corporte headquarters but many allotments (eg roads, military bases) are not based on per capita standards and in fact some are intentionally geared toward low density states like military bases and research labs. New Mexico is high because of Los Alamitos for example.

The more populated a region, the more likely they are to see the wisdom in combining resources to make stuff better and want government services, like public transportation, etc... so yes it is related

You edited this beyond recognition from what you first posted... so much so you should have actually made a new post because it would look like I did not answer it when I did...

That could appear sneaky... just a heads up...

And the citizens of California, the "tax payers"... we are California... we are the people of that state....

Hmm so LA being the busyiest port means what in terms of goods from China going to Alaska, are you are now arguing they do go through LA? That the people in Ak subsidise the port and your familly and state. You were arguing the opposite before. LA is the busyiest port (ok Ill take your word for it) does that mean it is the only port on the west coast. I do remeber that your man is a port worker, don't see any relevance to it though.

maybe you should take tyhis upagain when you are feeling better.

randomly spouting "you are incorrect" makes you look like realone. I am incorrect about what?

So you hate redstates and want to kick them out of the the USA.

The citizens of Alaska pay at exactly the same rate, Julia. In those terms we pay the same amount. Despite the porpotional differences, California gets way more money from the feds than Ak does (in absolute terms).

there is almost no local benefit to a base way out in the middle of nowhere like HAARP for example. Though Richardson and Elmendorph have significant economic benefits.

And huge amounts of potential economic activity is denied to the people of AK by the feds. ANWR for example

Gloves off,

Since you are going to continue to be a snarky sneaky , I will treat you as such

You are the one making the claims about Alaska and shipping

Post a fucking link asshole, quit expecting me to do your work for you

I posted links to my claims, now back your shit up!

And I will also state this... all the states on the west coast ARE BLUE except Alaska...

http://geography.about.com/cs/transportation/a/aa061603.htm

The ports of LA and Long beach are listed separately...

They are 7 and 8 respectively...

The container volume was 7.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in fiscal year 2004 and 6.7 million TEU in fiscal year 2003. The Port is the busiest port in the United States by container volume, the 8th busiest container port in the world and the 5th busiest internationally when combined with the neighboring Port of Long Beach. The top trading partners in 2004 were
  1. China ($68.8 billion)
  2. Japan ($24.1 billion)
  3. Taiwan ($10.8 billion)
  4. Thailand ($6.7 billion)
  5. South Korea ($5.6 billion)
quote:

The most imported types of goods were, in order: furniture; apparel; toys and sporting goods; vehicle and vehicle parts; and electronic products. From 2002 to the present, the Port has had a large backlog of ships waiting to be unloaded at any given time. Many analysts believe that the Port's traffic may have exceeded its physical capacity as well as the capacity of local freeway and railroad systems. The chronic congestion at the Port is beginning to cause ripple effects throughout the American economy and is disrupting Just In Time inventory practices at many companies. The port is served by the Pacific Harbor Line (PHL) railroad. From the PHL the intermodal railroad cars go north to Los Angeles via the Alameda Corridor.

Look you dumb bitch, that has nothing to do with anything.

What are you asking a link to? What claims do you think I am making about alaska and shipping, excpet that goods from asia get sent to the west coast first(doesn't matter whether it is the port of La, longbeach, portland, seattle or bumfuck pasedena) and then re packed on a different boat (giving jobs to a person in a blue state) to be shipped up to Ak.

So the demand for goods in a red state like Ak provides jobs and benefits for people in blue states(west coast).....You can't dispute that, hence your anger, and use of realone tactics.

I understand you are upset that the cited article disagrees with you. Tough shit....

If your claims were correct, you , then you could provide me with a link showing how Alaska handles all the cargo for the West Coast.,... which you can't because it DOESN'T... traveling through your waters does not make ships stop at your ports for off and on loading... I know you are not this stupid, quit pretending to be

Ummm, no where do I claim AK handles the cargo for the west coast. you are making that up. I did say that cargo for the red states(which includes Ak) comes through ports on the West coast, subsidising the economy around those ports, and giving your daddy a nice living. learn to read.

tell you what, If you can show me anywhere I said or implied that Ak handles the cargo for the west coast (OR ANYWHERE). I will leave these boards and never post here again. And if you can't you make a simple apology for your lack of reading comprehension.

Cargo ships come to Ak to off load consumer goods, and leave basically empty (different sorts of boats move the oil and ore). Goods from asia go firsdt to a blue state port (either California, oregon or Washington) then get repacked (providing a job in the port) and taken up to Ak.
