I think I may have hit on the answer, quite by accident. Like telling the Jehovaihs Witness that you are Catholic, you know...

A Dominant from Africa wrote me. I have a rule, it says so right on my profile, that I write back all who write me, at least until they are too rude not to, and I always answer the first letters. So I wrote him back. My experience, however, with African Dominant on this site is that they see even a 'no thank you' as encoragment (not that that is a specifically African trait on this site, a lot share that trait). the more you write to say 'No, you are too far away,' ect, ect, - the more they take encouragement, until, often, within 2 or three letters, they are proposing marraige, and offering to be my slave (a sudden switch which has ceased to be unexpected, but is always surprising, none the less)
This time, though, only two letters - I said 'no thank you, you are too far away', and he wrote me that of course distance is no object.. I wrote back, 'I would be close enough with you to visit my Aunt and Uncle in Ghana, but too far away to see my sons. Sorry' and his next letter was a polite, 'so sorry, best of luck'! WOW!
I guess having actual family in Africa could come in quite handy!

I had a 'native American' Dom (!) contact me and say he wanted me to be his.

So I asked what he was looking for in a submissive, to let me know what kind of relationship he envisaged, and if our ideas met somewhere in the middle then we could talk on IM.

I guess my demands on his knowledge of the English language were just a little too much...scammer went 'poof' and disappeared :-)

Although as we speak, I'm inventing an extended family in Ghana....hehehe

If the African doms on here are anything like the African "subs" who frequently write me, then I can see any reply as being an encouragement to them. I just automatically assume that their (Africans) predictable form letters have nothing to do with the lifestyle and everything to do with getting a hook in for whatever their real motives may be....

OP, I suggest you change your reply rule to something more akin to "I'll reply to all respectful and *sincere* mail"....

Focus.

Truth be told, most scammers (no matter where they are from) don't even read the replies until at least the third mail, sometimes longer. All they do is send out the next letter in their format. They spam so many people that it isn't worth their time to read first replies, or even second ones.

I've told some, in the foulest language I could manage, where to get off in order to test this theory, and the majority replied with the second format mail anyway.

Whoa - surely NOT!?!?! lol

Mind you, the average sub doesn't respond so well to being ignored, either. Maybe that's what really brought on the foul language? *wink*

When I was trading on Ebay, I was contacted by a very insistent potential buyer in Nigeria. Apparently, he could only send payment through Western Union, and arranging to meet my cousin who just happened to live in Lagos (yeah right) wasn't acceptable to him.

Odd, that.

LOL. I do get an average of 2 a day from drop dead gorgeous chicks offering them self as slaves. Most of them younger than my sons who incidentially both are South African citizens and have lived there all their lives. It sort of gets me a rather better than average perspective on Africa than the most. First they where mostly from Central Africa. Then it moved and was mostly from Southern Africa and now the trend is that they are American citizens, but do have a granny in Nigeria they are visiting for some reasons of another. The kind of yank who comes from Tampa Bay in Mashasjuset. Or the New Yorkers who don't know where the statue of Liberty stands. When really bored i sometimes do reply to them, but i must say I feel it like, when I was playing chess with my then 7 year old daugther. The challenge to unmask them just not even worth the effort. But can they really get pissed of when you point out their mistakes.
But this site is mild compared to the now closed Yahoo chat rooms. There, anything under 25 scamming attempts on an evening was quite OK. My blocking list must have been a mile long.

With the subs i seem to get a yahoo IM address i add em we chat a bit then the I want to come to you and be with you. So i send a simple request. DO you have a phone -- Nope (what person over the age of 13 doesnt have a phone or access to one in this country of the good ole USA. Ill then ask them to send a postcard or letter to me - they refuse saying they dont have money (LOL dont have a dollar) Jeez. It usually degrades from there -- Scammer gone - Sometimes ill get a pop up months later from the same person not even remembering that we had this chat before.

Different cultures approach relationships in different ways. Culturally, they have learned different ways to pursue. I tend to like the approach many Mediterranean men have as they are charming, romantic and alpha in the way they pursue. Unfortunately, many of them are too concerned with maintaining dominance throughout a relationship, but there are lovely exceptions to that rule.

I have been courted in real life by African men, mostly North African (Maghreb) but some from the sub-Saharan region. And yes, if I’m not interested and try to tell them politely, many (not all) can become quite insistent. But that is a culturally learned behaviour. I tend to just brush it off and let it be unless it invades my personal space, at which point I remind them of my very clear boundaries.

That said, I’ve had to remind North Americans of these boundaries just as much.

So I guess because of a couple of scammers, you have concluded that everyone from Africa is a scammer? I would hope that most don't fall victim to stereotypes...

You can tell a scammer right off-when they offer something too good to be true-over and over with the same cut and paste crap from different profiles-as the mods keep deleting the old ones.

In my experience, I've had more North American scammers than African ones.

To date, that's been my 100% experience, yes!

But I get just as cynical when mobs like "Freedom from Hunger" show footage of starving Ethiopians - kids covered in flies etc.... The message I get is that they're only ever starving or breeding.... and starving.... and breeding.....

But back to the scammers here. Maybe when an African sub approaches me without an angle (and off-site email address), I'll be a little more open-minded about them. But them first...!

Focus.

I don't assume every African is a scammer, although I do assume every African is too far away for me to relocate to, and my relocatablity is carefully discussed on my profile. But pretty far down on it, so I am not a stickler for that.
this gentleman said nothing to make me think he was a scammer in our short interaction, until my mention of family in Africa caused him to run for the hills! So, yea, i think that may be a scammer symptom.
I really do have an Aunt and Uncle in Ghana - no, wait, I don't, they are currently visiting Indiana and plan to stay long enough to see a couple of grandkisds graduate highschool and marry up a cousin of mine. but they live in Ghana, so, no, my attitude about Africans is not in the least that they are all scammers, or even all alike. I just thought the 'OMG, she has family in Africa, gotta scram now!' was rather funny.
