AquaticSub -> Happy Purim! (2/28/2010 4:44:12 AM)

The holiday completely snuck up on me this year! Hopefully I'll make to shul today but we will definately be enjoying a few pints in the spirit of the holiday and hopefully I can find some hamantashen somewhere.

Maybe I can convince Valyraen to let me give the orders today to embrace the topsy-turvy day! [:D]

(Or maybe I'll just clean in my corset and sex boots. That's a lot more likely to happen!)

Happy Purim to you too, Sweetie!

When my kids were little, I would bake about 15 dozen hamentashen from scratch every year for Shalot Manot baskets. This year, hmm, maybe one batch.

Hamentashen tip: for the best chocolate ones, chips don't work - use nutella and people will rave about your baking skills.

Edited cause I'm on my phone and it's easy to make typos

Eeeep!  I have been so busy that I have not gotten any made this year either.

This has always been one of my favorite holidays.

I did find this easy-peasy-mac-and-cheesey recipe though:

2/3 cup margarine, room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose white flour
pie filling
egg, beaten
sugar for garnish
1. Blend butter and sugar thoroughly.
2. Add flour and orange juice, alternating.
3. Refrigerate batter for a few hours.
4. Roll out dough as thin as you can.
5. Cut out 3-4 inch circles.
6. Put a tablespoon of filling in the middle of each circle.
7. Fold up 3 sides to form a triangle (Overlap the sides so only a little filling shows through the middle).
8. Bake at 375 degrees for about 10-15 minutes (bake until golden brown, but take out before the filling boils over). I have everything but the OJ.  I may have to send the other half to the store for some.

Ooo, thanks for the recipe. I'm about to head out to a Purim party so I can grab what I need on the way home! [:)]

YAY!

AquaticSub -> RE: Happy Purim! (2/28/2010 9:23:38 AM)

Mmm... hamantashen. I should tell my friends they have Jew-cooties so they won't steal them from me. [:D]

Aqua, mine are almost all done, so if you need some, just come over and get some!  I even have the tins wrapped in fabric!  [:D]

I should do that. I ended up not being able to make any after I suddenly felt ill. No clue what brought it on either, it was one of the most random things. [:'(]

At least I got one at the Purim lunch at the Reform Temple. And I got to point at the little kids running around, playing games and grin at Val.  "Honey.... don't you want one....." [:D]

To which I instantly replied, "Hell no! We just got a pet with high medical bills, we don't need another one!"

Yes folks, I'm pretty sure that guaranteed me a spot by the fire in the afterlife...

DarlingSavage -> RE: Happy Purim! (3/1/2010 9:57:23 AM)

I don't know what Purim is, but have a happy one. It sounds like fun.

VaguelyCurious -> RE: Happy Purim! (3/1/2010 10:19:49 AM)

This thread is making me SO HUNGRY.

I really want hamentaschen now...

:-(

AquaticSub -> RE: Happy Purim! (3/1/2010 2:55:52 PM)

I still need to make some. I've never made them so I want to go ahead and do it anyway. Besides, I can give them to all my friends. [:)]

I fully expect you to find a way to send me some over the internet, please.
