ORIGINAL: NeedToUseYou Like I don't see anything bad about have enough food for a few month, and water. You just rotate your stock, so nothing goes expired, in short it doesn't cost anything. And that is a problem for me. I do not, and would not want to use the amount of canned stuff I would need to stockpile to feed my family for a few months, so I would regularly would have food spoil, and that is not something I find acceptable. The emergencies we are prepared for are more along the lines of me, or a kid getting ill enough to make not going to have to go out and buy groceries for some days an appreciable help. Or the days that live just happens and time gets away from us. Being able to pull of a nice meal on days like this is what I am prepared for. I like to cook, and I have a well stocked kitchen and pantry, as that makes my everyday live easier, and I would be able to fed us for some time, but no where near that long. I do keep a small vegetable garden, and even have a teeny, tinsy green house. But that is because I like to garden, and I love fresh veggis and salad, not because I try to be self sufficient. We are prepared for maybe about a week or two in an emergency, and considering where we live, I am pretty sue that is enough.
