CNJDom -> Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/2/2010 10:43:41 PM)

It seems that some topics here on the forums have been lacking something lately.  Asinine questions for the sake of posting something at the very least, or to spark some response of a debate over some topic that falls short sometimes of being an intelligent question.  I'm not suggesting the postings of newbies with valid (which may seem like silly questions to some) issues, but those that have posted continuously with topics without substance or value to contribute something to the BDSM community on any level.

WHY?  Why ask these questions wasting time and bandwidth?  Why respond to these ridiculous questions that have no obvious or completely obvious answers to them, when with some real thought, some real topics could be addressed and do more for us all in a better light?  I don't think I'm being unreasonable in asking that perhaps we could stop with the silly or cheap filler posts, and move on?  I would just like to open up a posted topic and not have to see or think:  "Oh please give me a break!  Are you kidding me?!", and then see that pages of inflammable counter-postings lamenting on the mediocrity of it all feeding into the OP's humor to get a rise out of everybody.

I'd like to see a change in this, and I hope a good majority of you out there would like to see that as well...Take care.

I agree. We need to start a thread about cute puppies and kittens.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/2/2010 10:55:10 PM)

And Unicorns...oh wait, nevermind

PrimalConsonance -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/2/2010 10:55:51 PM)

Of course, and why not?

Smutmonger -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/2/2010 10:58:49 PM)

We can name the puppy "Einstien" and the kitten "Nietsche"

Then watch the fur fly

Kana -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/2/2010 10:59:46 PM)

Don Quixote, a mule named Rocinante. roses wrapped round the lance, a windmill in the distance just begging for tilting.
Yep. all the ingredients are here 'cept Sancho Panza

osf -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/2/2010 11:59:42 PM)

Is this a serious thread?

Smutmonger -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/3/2010 12:01:13 AM)

Of course it is.

Cute puppies and kittens generate BILLIONS of dollars in revenue every year!

Please feel free to indicate which threads on page 1 of this forum section you feel are intellectually below par.

Your timing is actually incredibly odd considering the amount of substantive discussions happening recently.

There are a lot of questions that seem "silly" from the newbies about relationship issues as though things change all that much because a power dynamic of some sort is involved.

However, there are many people who feel the need to overanalyze every thought in their head (or so it seems) trying to find some deep meaning to everything. Perhaps they think that posting all these deep, philosophical questions makes them appear highly intelligent and intense, I don't know. What I do know is that there rarely a need to try to analyze things on that level and life is much happier if one just accepts things at face value for what they are. I'm not saying that we should never analyze the reasons for something, but is it really that difficult to simply accept that you are dominant or submissive without trying to figure out "why?" Certainly, it can be logical to try to learn where things went wrong so that it doesn't happen again, but for most of the things, they seem to be half formed ramblings of people. I know that isn't the popular opinion with those folks, and I'm certain I will be warmed by the flames from those who think they are imparting wisdom or really great things to think about with their posts. But the reality is that many things just "are." There isn't and doesn't need to be some psychological, philosophical, or sociological reason behind it.

This reality you speak of...is one that involves humans?

Because humans are nothing if not psychological and sociological animals.

I guess one can be lucky and sit down at a Texas hold 'em table without knowing which between a straight or pair is a better hand and still manage to pull off unlikely wins...but, as with all things in life, a better understanding of the rules normally yields a better result.

NihilusZero -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/3/2010 12:12:07 AM)

Then again, Thomas Gray did have a salient point...

NihilusZero -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/3/2010 12:14:34 AM)

Of course, then you have Socrates' counterpoint...

NihilusZero -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/3/2010 12:16:28 AM)

The delicious irony, of course, is that in order to have a substantial point in suggesting that (over-)analysis can be a damning thing to the human condition, we must have already engaged in the process of analyzing it...

Seems like when most everybody is younger, we all are exploring the world. Looking at things wondering why, and how things work. Then over time, into adulthood people sort loose touch with the manner we once used to look at things and wonder why and how.

Actually, I have discovered sites as www.ted.com to be way more thought provoking.

Whiplashsmile4 -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/3/2010 12:46:09 AM)

Oh hell.. here's an interesting topic... in general but can be applied to BDSM.. hehehe
Daniel Kahneman: The riddle of experience vs. memory

stella41b -> RE: Raising the I.Q. on forum topics (3/3/2010 12:56:59 AM)

Oh here we go again, another thread started complaining about the quality of some content on the site and seeking to exclude certain people because of it. Please tell me someone how different this is from the numerous threads started on scammers and fake profiles?

But you know, switching on a computer, starting a browser, opening this site, logging on, coming onto the boards, browsing the threads and even reading the postings all involve free will. As far as I'm aware nobody is required to be here, we come here of our own free will.

Therefore just in the same way nobody is forcing anyone to read any of the threads or postings, which are started employing the basic principle of this site and the community as a whole which is that of freedom of personal self-expression.

Okay, so some people aren't on the same level of awareness as others, some people have problems using writing as a form of communication, some people are experiencing circumstances and life circumstances which affect them emotionally or mentally, some even are suffering from emotional issues and mental illness but you know I don't see how any of these issues makes what someone thinks and feels any less valid or gives them any less right to come here and get whatever enjoyment they get from the boards.

We all signed up to the same TOS and conditions and for me we all have equal right to be here for whatever reason that suits us, as long as of course it lies within the TOS of the site.

Let us not forget that there are those here who for whatever reason do not have the same level of acceptance and understanding in wider society as others and this is one of the few spaces which are accepting and understanding and where they are free to express themselves however which way they wish. If some of these 'less acceptable' or marginalized people are further excluded, where do you expect them to go?

Another thing is, if some posts and threads are not intelligent enough for the OP, precisely what intelligence are we talking about here? Are we talking about intellectuality? Emotional intelligence? Wisdom gained from life experience?

It's not that I don't understand or accept what the OP is saying, I see the same things, I've started threads which have sank like the Titanic, I have come onto the boards and gone through various sections and not found anything I could post to.

But rather than expect everyone else to conform to what I feel the boards should be like I simply log off, go for a walk, meet with friends, go take some photos, do something else away from the computer and try again later on.

I like the idea of freedom of personal expression and I appreciate those in the past who have struggled and fought so that we have that freedom, and it's that freedom that I for one wouldn't want to ever take for granted or see taken away.
