Is being submissive a reflection of ones self imagery?
Does being submissive stem from ones self imagery?
Does submitting reinforce ones self imagery?

Pick one or some and run with it.
Thanks,

None of the above.

Submission is a personality trait (which anyone can have, subs, vanillas, switches, doms, etc) or an orientation.

EXPRESSION of one's submission however is a complicated mish mash of context, motivations, and perceptions.

Is being submissive a reflection of ones self imagery?
Does being submissive stem from ones self imagery?

For me, being a submissive is not a reflection of my self-imagery. It's a reflection of my inner needs, wants and desires. I looked for ways to serve in a time and place where that was not accepted by my friends, my family, my role models. Those needs, wants and desires just looked for natural outlets which lead me into the lifestyle.

In my case, submitting rarely reinforces my self imagery. Largely because through the process of submitting, I learn new aspects of myself. I learn to serve in new ways and I go to new places that I've not explored before. So, in some sense, it does reinforce my self imagery, but to a larger extent, it shifts, sometimes a lot, sometimes only subtly, the way I view myself.

I see my submissive tendencies as a thirst that needs to be quenched. If it's not, I'm not whole. I can occasionaly go through withdrawls if that side of me is not being met. I don't see that it really has anything to do with self imagery in my case. I'm only submissive to a select few people, so it goes no further than that.

i completely agree with this. nothing makes me happier, than being able to please others... It's like a physical need. That may sound dumb, but i am always fearful about letting other people down, or disappointing them. But putting a smile on their face, gives me such warmth inside.

i luv being submissive, and being given the opportunity to please.

Interesting. I create it and choose to play it out, but it is not how the rest of the world sees me or how I see myself most of the time. If I am submissive "out in the world" it is out of a desire to not have so much responsibility, to be more relaxed.

Does being submissive stem from ones self imagery?
Not in my case. It is a role I have found to be of purpose and a fascination, and an artistic self expression.

Does submitting reinforce ones self imagery?
Hmmm. It actually helps me temper and balance my otherwise dominant personality, and causes me to grow, to stretch myself. My "self imagery" I think is ego generated. My submission actually fosters something other than that, that is closer to my spiritual essence.

Pick one or some and run with it.
Thanks,

I like that a lot.  I feel much the same way.

However, the only thing I would add is this feeling only applies to those I deem worthy.

Submision is more than a sexual thing. For me its the desire to please people and putting thier needs above yours.

Well, most people here are saying 'no', and while I can't say 'yes', I think I can say 'kinda'.
While my submission certianly doesn't /stem/ from my self-image, it does interact heavily with it. Especially when I am being submissive outside of a 'scene' context... either aftercare or just playing with the energy of it. It is very common for me to get worries of... not doing things right, or of them doing things 'for me' instead of because they want to. This is almost always a very silly concern, but it can enter very strongly into my headspace, and it becomes quite real. An image of being selfish is very easy to build and reinforce and is, of course, entirely silent. Gets to be quite a pain.
