Yeah, the lives of everyone else if the gun shoots the person pulling the trigger

True. And I think it's a good thing that more women are carrying guns these days.
Many home invaders will yell "Police!" as they kick in your door.
I have a plan for that; "I fuckin HATE Cops!" "Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!"

and what is the etymology of the word police?   Policy.  They are "public policy" enforcers.  The same public policy that is working to ban guns, (regarless of the personal opinions of man in that uniform).

They are called Law engorcers but the truth of the matter is they are code enforcers.  All legislation is called code, and all legislation is in violation of your rights.  Tough pill to swallow for the status quo.

mnottertail -> RE: Guns Save Lives! (3/5/2010 10:34:25 AM)

The word 'police' stems from the Greek word 'politeia' meaning, state, administration, government.

sucker played you

first fucking hit, I didnt even have to break the word down into its components.

policy: "way of management, government, administration," late 14c., from O.Fr. policie (14c.) "civil administration," from L. politia "the state," from Gk. politeia "state, administration, government, citizenship," from polites "citizen," from polis "city, state," from PIE *p(o)lH- "enclosed space, often on high ground" (cf. Skt. pur, puram "city, citadel," Lith. pilis "fortress"). Meaning "plan of action, way of management" first recorded c.1406.

the police work for and enforce the above noted agencies and have nothing to do with enforcing law.

I mean I hope we agree that government cannot make "Law"

Administrations cannot make "Law"

nor can management make "Law"

they can only make policy, code et al

I am suprised he suckered you on that.

mnottertail -> RE: Guns Save Lives! (3/5/2010 12:01:40 PM)

police does not come from policy, no more than politic comes from poetic.

at the root of the word it is dealing with an arm of the state, they share a shirtail relations in sibling fashion and not in ancestor progeny fashion

they are related in the way that jutsu and do are related.

one did not come from the other. you are simply and purely wrong.

slvemike4u -> RE: Guns Save Lives! (3/5/2010 12:27:15 PM)

Guns don't save lives,people do!

Musicmystery -> RE: Guns Save Lives! (3/5/2010 12:55:20 PM)

Why, just the other day, timmy fell into the well, and a gun went off barking and barking until someone came and rescued the poor child.

Musicmystery -> RE: Guns Save Lives! (3/5/2010 12:56:28 PM)

Another time, these kids were ice skating, when suddenly one fell through---and gun on the shore rushed in and pulled the child to safety!

Good thing the safety was on.

slvemike4u -> RE: Guns Save Lives! (3/5/2010 1:01:28 PM)

Well MM,I guess I stand corrected [:D]

Musicmystery -> RE: Guns Save Lives! (3/5/2010 1:04:03 PM)

And one time, when a big account threatened to pull out, I showed them my report---with bulleted lists.

They signed the renewal and went out for shots.
