I don't know what it is - but I feel like I get more than my share of Horny Net Geeks.
I usually have Yahoo IM running in the background when I'm working on my computer - and about once a week I get some 20-50 year old guy wanting to have sex. And these aren't gay or bi - per se, from what I can see, these are usually married guys who want to meet in park or a cheezy motel room for something on the side.
I've tried to be very clear in my Yahoo profile of what my interests are - but that doesn't seem to help. I questioned the last guy and found out he didn't even bother to read my profile, just saw me as being local, and online while doing a Yahoo search. (mmm - come to think of it, many of these people are somewhat local.)
The last guy who messaged me wanted a JO buddy. (Sorry, not interested.)
So, lately I've taken to redirecting these people to the local Leather bars. <shrugs> Who knows, maybe they'll find happiness?
How common is this? I know anyone who is female on the net gets swarmed by HNGs - and I know that the people who contact me are not exactly a 'swarm' - but it does happen to me often enough to be annoying. Any other males out there that get HNG hits?
