Tazzy- No, this is incorrect; the first tipoff is that there is no federal program called "Welfare"... what we call that, is usually meant the old Aid to Families With Dependent Children program AFDC, administered by the Department of Agriculture. The link you provided is innaccurate; it doesn't break down government departments by their true names, but lumps things together that should be separated. If you go to that website, and drill down into the weeds, you will discover that the "Welfare" category is comprised of things like unemployment insurance, earned income tax credit, and child care tax credit. In other words, they are claiming that tax credits amount to welfare. If this were true, every business in America that used a passive-loss carry forward would be considered a welfare case. The correct numbers are here; We give about 7.7 Billion each year in food and nutrition assistance, or 0.2% of all spending, or about the cost of a few months in Iraq. Just to put things in perspective.
