Since 2007, at least 75 registered lobbyists, public relations representatives and corporate officials have appeared on cable news broadcasts "with no disclosure of the corporate interests that paid them," The Nation magazine (March 1) reveals.

Many of these people are "paid by companies and trade groups to manage their public image and promote their financial and political interests," writes the magazine's Sebastian Jones, a freelance reporter after a four-month-long probe./snip

TV tanked long, long, long before 2007.

I agree.  Notice how they have all sorts of words/titles for these guys.  None of which seem to be "real" jobs.   Throw in the govt talking points and it all is a info-mercial.

The evening news broadcast by ABC,CBS and NBC are pretty much irrelevant. I doubt very much that they will bother putting them on the air in a few short years.

Oh, you mean there is no reliable news source on TV?  Well, duh.  Even in the Cronkite days TV news was pablum.  It is neither better nor worse now.  If you rely on TV for your education you have a problem no amount of education can cure.

To be honest Hunky, I'd agree that 90% of "news" coverage over there is actually no such thing - its propaganda and entertainment more than anything else (and I'm sorry Fox lovers, your lot are the worst). You'd be better off watching the BBC, although its about to have its wings clipped due to complaints from "commercial operators" (Fox in other words) that they are competing unfairly.

Meanwhile most US comedy is awful. Documentaries appear to have been filmed for 5 year olds. Gameshows are about as inane as any here.

But think yourself lucky. One afternoon of central European TV and even if you understand the language you'll realise how much better it is in the US (though not as good as the BBC of course)

Perhaps, but if there are a few kick-ass programs that you can enjoy, it doesn't really matter that the rest is drivel because it's not like you have to watch all of it.  Besides, crappy TV gives one an incentive to step outside for a bit.

At one time I paid $63 a month for that.

Even TV in the UK is sliding tho.   Note how much of it has an agenda.    (global warming comes to mind)

The kicker is Americans are still willing to pay cash money for this "programming".

NPR, PBS-   still have agendas- that count the buzz words in any program.   Those buzz words stick in a persons mind.   Sorta like a trigger.

For a while- I watched some TV with no sound.  It was abit more bearable.

The thing is- all the main media is stacked-   and the people pay for this BS.

Because many think we have to have it.

Chapman says we can expect a news network to go under.

Actually in light of the internet it is time for a couple of "well established news sources" to tank. Let's hope Fox dies well.

I watch tv exclusively for entertainment, and 90% of that is hulu (for tv shows, and have netflix to). Even though the cable is hooked up for tv (I don't pay for TV, and have told them more than once it's turned on, yet they don't turn the Cable off?).

I pretty well, get all my news from the internet. I watch democracynow.org, infowars.com (he, does have some real information, though not all of it), I go to google news, I go to stories linked from here and another forum I go to from time to time, every once and awhile I will buy a local paper, Oh, and I also go to an adjacent towns online news site. Oh, I watch quite of few talks on ted.com. Probably more places, but I'm on the internet working all the time, so, I like having something playing all the time.

However, I have a netflix account, and they have a lot of documentaries, history stuff online which is what I watch a large fraction of the time.

I will look in on democracynow from time to time.

I like these;

http://blacklistednews.com/

http://whatreallyhappened.com/
http://www.roguegovernment.com/

http://dprogram.net/

I look at these more then Alex Jones.   I look at lots of stuff online.  When I sense it is too infomercial tho- I leave the page.

So what you say Hunky is that you basically flip the channel when you don't like what you see. A novel idea that noone has ever thought of before eh ?

But then sometimes it is better to know thy enemy. But to each his own. Really, if you do start puking too much you must change the channel.

Seriously- I wear out those buttons.   I also broke 3 radio dials because I would change it when a commercial come on- or to find a better song.  LOl.

The issue per the above article is that the disclosure of where the experts came from was not mentioned.  That means any advice is biased-- even if they say otherwise.
