PeonForHer -> Whistling Lessons for Women (3/8/2010 11:57:43 AM)

It came to my attention long ago that women are shyte at whistling.  Why this is, I'm not quite sure.  I think it's traditionally been seen as unfeminine in some way so the practice of it as girls has been frowned upon.  Perhaps it was because, at one time, only common workmen whistled (before the days of ghetto blasters, when such workmen had to provide their own music.)   Or maybe it was because girls and ladies were encouraged simply to be 'quiet while men were around'.

I don't know.  However, I (and any other males who may generously wish to donate their time and whistling knowledge) will be glad to help rectify this tragic gender imbalance.

At http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&v=DbLNigDZai8 you will find one of the cutest tunes I've ever heard.  Women: you may practise whistling this tune and provide a link to an audio on this thread when you feel ready.  I (and perhaps other males) shall be delighted to audition your effort (no matter how incompetent) and provide you with constructive criticism.

I think this is the base of the problem, women don't........

God, Kitty - I had no idea that The Bangles were TVs.   Jeez, next I'll find out that Michelle Pfeiffer was actually a bloke all along!

I can actually whistle pretty well [sm=dancer.gif] . I can carry out a tune better than most blokes I know.

Heh, heh . . . Steve Martin in The Two of Me - I've never seen a better portrayal of a man's view of how women see men.  We never do manage to get through a minute without spitting, belching or farting, do we? [;)]

I love whistling! I whistle all the time (well, not ALL the time, but I whistle often). There have been times that I am whistling merrily along a crowded hallway and get those *looks* - you know what I mean - "A *girl*? WHISTLING? How extraordinarily inappropriate!" and I shut my whistle-hole, sometimes, because of it. Other times it doesn't bother me. I loved the link to the first tune there, PFH. I'll be whistling it for the next few weeks at least.

That's very plucky of you to say so, Kittin.  I always admire a woman who can do something well - and that happens very frequently indeed, these days.  Bravo!

kittinSol -> RE: Whistling Lessons for Women (3/8/2010 12:40:02 PM)

You should start a "list out all your talents!" thread. I'd be in there in a jiffy :-) .

Curiously, my grandmother was a professional whistler on the radio.  Sadly I don't have proof.

Women are shite at whistling, huh?

Peon, you've heard me whistle. Are you really going to stand there and tell me it was shite?

(Or at least you'll be standing for a while after I'm done, if you do...)

[:D]

No, I'm going to stand here and say how very much I wanted to kiss you because you are utterly gorgeous.  Now please be deeply embarrassed, and shut up and stop ruining my thread.

Point taken [:)]

(Still didn't actually diss the whistling, though, didja?)

I have always whistled - and not infrequently was told that a whistling woman and a crowing hen will come to no good end!!!!!

Needlessly to say, I paid them little attention. [:D]

DarkSteven -> RE: Whistling Lessons for Women (3/8/2010 5:08:49 PM)

Who cares about whistling? As long as they can hum...[:)]

LafayetteLady -> RE: Whistling Lessons for Women (3/8/2010 5:20:12 PM)

Must be a Brit thing. I've always been able to whistle. Including the really loud one that I used to call my son when he was little. (actually that one worked for all children in my care, like the pied piper). My friends know how to whistle, too. No one ever told me it was an "un-girly" thing to do (ok, they did with the loud one).

heartcream -> RE: Whistling Lessons for Women (3/8/2010 5:23:12 PM)

Not a great whistler and suck at snapping my fingers too, I use my baby finger and it is still purty shabby.

LadyEllen -> RE: Whistling Lessons for Women (3/8/2010 5:26:49 PM)

women are natural whistlers on the windblown slopes of the Alps; its just a matter of standing facing the right way
