Or ,to be more specific...and correct,Muslim fanatics are bad....Though using the adjective "bad" offends me,it is so damm simplistic!

I think it was in very poor taste and probably deserved some flack, like Muslims organizing and boycotting all newspapers that printed that cartoon, or having a protest rally. Not an execution.

In some cultures, calling someone a dog is one of the worst insults you can do so yes, I found the cartoonist's humor insulting. Maybe he wasn't turning the other cheek about something that had offended him, but was retaliating in kind. <shrugs>

The one I was referring to was the cartoonist. As in "Maybe the cartoonist showed such poor taste because he wasn't turning the other cheek about something that had offended him, but was retaliating in kind."

Shit Cynthia I've been insulted a time or two....hell just on these pages I average 2 a day....only fanatics,no matter their stripe believe that equates to a death sentence!

Couldn't be because a lot of those willing to commit acts of terrorism, and kill for no other reason than to kill, see the subject as the father of their religion, could it?

So what....in no way shape or form,in any civilised context does that justify a death sentence....or in plainer terms MURDER.And I defy you to make the case that it does!

1) slvemike4u, Ghandi himself could read my post and not find ANYTHING in my post that advocated violence.

2) StrangerThan, I clearly see how offended a religious group would be to have the father of their religion portrayed as a dog. I thought my first paragraph spelled this out.

Before I open my mouth I need to disclaim that I view cartoons to be more than just kids stuff on Saturday mornings or weekday afternoons.

Dexter's Lab: the Opera Special (Cartoon Network)
Ed, Edd, and Eddy (Cartoon Network)
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (Cartoon Network)
Phineas and Ferb (Disney Channel)
Dave the Barbarian (Disney Channel)

Just to name a few of the better ones - are bad?
I could easily argue the positive benefits of each on several points each.

cartoons aren't bad - but (ironically) these were bad cartoons - clumsy, crude, unfunny etc

if you mock someone (or their beliefs, or their family, or their culture, football team etc etc) to their face, you can risk a slap - or worse, in some places
this guy set out to offend an entire culture - without saying anything new/informative etc

I don't advocate violence to resolve something as relatively trivial as a cartoon BUT I wouldn't worry about the consequences for people opening their stupid mouths so much either

provocative political cartoons have a long and illustrious history - this grubby effort doesn't deserve to be mentioned in their company

a man who mocks people for being so extreme in their reactions to "offence" (real or imagined) and sets out to deliberately offend them really can't have many complaints when they live up to his assertions

yeah they can (and will) spend £mils protecting the fuckwit, but I also rather hope he is having sleepless nights - mainly for his lack of ability and judgement

extremists - bad
fuckwit unsubtle cartoonists - bad
