Brain -> Cheney to lawyers: Drop dead| The Barr Code (3/11/2010 12:27:49 AM)

Why not try and fry? Maybe there was the fear that they picked up the wrong people. The track record for accuracy in that admin wasn't really major league, by any measurement.

Cheney to lawyers:“drop dead”| The Barr Code

Liz Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, appears to have inherited her father's disdain for the niceties of constitutional principles.
Former Vice-president and President John Adams, who earlier in his legal career represented the highly-unpopular British “Redcoats” accused of shooting civilians in the Boston Massacre, must be turning in his grave.  But here, above ground, the most recent former vice president beams at his daughter as she trashes public servants for putting constiutional principles to work in our justice system.

I really pray:
1. That the next Republican President appoints as Attorney General a man from a law firm known for seeking out KKK and Aryan Nations members and defending them pro bono.
2. That said AG hires a dozen or so attorneys who have done defended members of the aforementioned groups.
3. That said AG refuses to name the lawyers hired.
4. That said AG refuses to confirm how many of them are working for the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department.

So you hope that the next republican AG hires ACLU lawyers to work in the civil rights division? I couldn't agree with you more.

That would be clever if the ACLU had a history of doing such.
Unfortunately for you, the latter doesn't and the former isn't.

thornhappy -> RE: Cheney to lawyers: Drop dead| The Barr Code (3/12/2010 9:34:57 AM)

The ACLU defended Oliver North, a darling of conservatives.

The ACLU has a long history of defending members of the KKK and other racist organizations. Even a simple google search reveals numerous news articles on the subject.

JohnWarren -> RE: Cheney to lawyers: Drop dead| The Barr Code (3/12/2010 10:49:29 AM)

Except for the Second Amendment (where they have a carefully developed blind spot) the ACLU has a long record of defending people whose constitutional rights have been threatened regardless of the political leanings of those people.

Alright; I give. The ACLU has in fact defended the KKK etc.....

So I added #5 to my 'prayer list".[:)]

5. That said AG confirms none of them have ever worked for, or done pro bono work for, the ACLU or SPLC.

And this of course bears no resemblance to the present situation.
