Is this a real question?

On the prom guidelines it stated that couples must be of the opposite sex.

I am saying that the thought of a same-sex couple squicks them out SO much that they could not just let them attend the prom. 

They also did not want to pay the fees for there own lawyer and court time while the ACLU fought for these students rights. 

So they cancelled the prom.

As far as WHY it freaks them out.  I really do not understand the mindset so I cannot give you an answer.

I often think that that spot of unpleasantness in 1861-1865 was not the War of Northern Aggression, but the War of Northern Stupidity. We actually waged a war to hold on those folks so that they could repay us with Jesse Helms and Trent Lott and canceled proms. What were we thinking?

No shortage of kinksters here in the Bible Belt. Okay, Mississippi may be worse, but that state gave us some of our best music this past century.

I am not so sure. The dance was for only heteros. What if they went and got kicked out? What was to be gained at that point? This way they brought the attention of the whole country on these inbred redneck pieces of trash. Instead of backing down and allowing the gals to go they cancelled the dance. Which would lead one to believe that if the dykes would have tried to go dancing they would have been met with some fairly staunch opposition.

They really are heroes...Lesbian heroes but heroes nonetheless. Pussy licking, twat grinding, cunt bumbing, softball playing, khaki wearing heroes but heroes nonetheless.

Kill the whole "prom date" bullshit and encourage the students to turn up in groups. They have plenty of time ahead of them to get hitched and suffer the consequences. I agree. It takes huge courage for someone that age to take a stand like that, and it is an important stand to take. Easier to just fade away and keep under the radar but that is a fucked up way to have to live. Instead of taking the easy way she decided that this was worth fighting over.

Maybe the national spotlight will make a difference, but even if it doesn't I bet it will inspire another gay kid somewhere in the US to stand up when they need to. Get enough standing up and we can all use the same drinking fountain. Eventually.
