slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 11:34:26 AM)

Alright...righteously busted....all cool.
( I would like to point out the futility of picking on an Irishman ,on St.Paddy's day for something as trivial as a mispelled wird...that jest sily)

subtee -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 11:46:45 AM)

It's not you, it's me. I should have some xxxxx beer--manly yes, but I'm Irish too!

I liked the article:

Irish people are cool, Faith and Begorrah

[Edited because VaguelyCurious picked on me. (But that's okay--she's cute!)]

You do know that nobody outside America drinks green beer, right? [:'(]

slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 11:55:48 AM)

That's cool too ...just drink beer out of a green bottle...Heineken's works fine.
Of course ,as usual,I will be drinking(okay,am drinking) Jack Daniels...I'm Irish not stupid.....bourbon baby!

DarlingSavage -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 12:16:09 PM)

I'm Irish, too! I refuse to drink green beer! I will have Killian's Red, though! Awesome stuff!

popeye1250 -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 1:23:18 PM)

In best Jimmy Burke voice; "Hey, there's only one Irishman here!"
Yeah, that's mostly true, it was Irish monks that saved and copied by hand all the great literary works of Western Civilization.
It's nothing to see Irish people today who speak three or four languages and many young kids go to "Irish" schools in the summer in Galway, Mayo, Sligo, and Donegal in the "Gaeltacht", Irish speaking areas.
I believe Ireland has one of the highest levels of literacy in the world.

"May the curse of Mary Malone and her nine blind illegitimate children chase you so far over the hills of Damnation that the Lord himself can't find you with a telescope."
Now how's that for an Irish curse![:D]

slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 1:40:52 PM)

Okay Pops,I have to ask...why were all of her children blind?( I understand the illegitimate part...its just the odds of giving birth to 9 blind children is ,frankly astronomical)

Mike, they were Democrats.

slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 2:53:19 PM)

Okay that tears it Pops...Irish or not....fuck you...just not today, its way too nice a day to be Irish.

DomKen -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 3:34:33 PM)

I'll lift my glass of Glenlivet to toast my Irish kin tonight.

BTW Cahill's book "How the Irish Saved Civilization" is a great book for anyone who wants to learn more about the Irish saving classical literature.

slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 4:17:14 PM)

You know what Ken ,when I was a younger man I marched every year down 5th avenue.....and it was my habit that at some point I stopped into one or another of the many bookstores in Manhattan...always with the same object in mind....a book dealing in some way ,shape or form with the Irish experience...be it as immigrants to a new country or as rebels trying to establish once and for all their own country.
Well I've stopped walking down 5th avenue....and the habit sort of died with the walking(not to say I stopped reading mind you...that would be sheer lunacy...lol)but you just gave me a ready made new version of St.Paddy's at Barnes and Nobles.
Thanks.

Mike, Erin go Bragh! And one thing us Irish are "known for" is a sense of humor, right?

slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 5:31:13 PM)

Sure thing Pops....but seeing as the disability was blindness would that not mean the fathers(no matter how many it took to produce nine children) must have been blind as bats, cold hearted bigoted Republicans?
Its the only logical answer![:D]

Absolutely one of my favorite books.

*raises my glass of JD to all the Irish*

slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 5:48:21 PM)

Oh shit Level thats too easy......hope you don't mind if I color mine with a little Coke [:D]

Level -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 6:07:13 PM)

Naw, that's what's in mine!

slvemike4u -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 6:11:21 PM)

Imagine my surprise ,when after years of hearing "how can you mix JD with coke-cola",seeing a Chili's drink menu refer to Jack and Coke as "America's Cocktail.
What the fuck were all of my older uncles talking about when I was young?
( what I was doing eating in a Chili's is a discussion for another time [:D])

Level -> RE: Turning Green with Literacy (3/17/2010 6:33:37 PM)

Hey, I love the Big Mouth Burgers at Chilis, with the ranch dipping sauce, washed down with a couple of ice cold brews. Not good for a diabetic, but I gotta do what I gotta do (sometimes).
