Well, I received the letter below from a friend today. And after reading it, all I can do is shake my head and wonder what the hell has gone wrong with this country. Read it.. they are canceling the high school prom because this girl wants to take her girlfriend. WTF??? And they pointed the finger directly at her in doing so.. actually used her name!
What? The teen years weren't already hard enough with puberty and dealing with hormones? We have to turn a young woman into the villain because she wants to spend her prom with the person she cares about and is dating? Do they think being homosexual will spread like mono? Slow dance next to a lesbian and poof.. you're gay! If so, they're pretty screwed cuz this girl and her girlfriend have been going to school and even drinking out of the drinking fountain for years. Damn, guess they're going to have a rash of closeted folks. Don't drop the soap in MS!
I really shouldn't joke about it- not even to try to clear the bitter taste left in my mouth from just thinking about it. The ACLU is actually involved in a court case on her behalf. ( http://www.aclu.org/lgbt-rights/fulton-ms-prom-discrimination )
Personally I was incensed enough to send physical mail to the principal of the school and the head of the school board. I also signed the petition using my real name and "business" e-mail address. If you want to also send some physical mail voicing your concern over the matter you can find the school board site at http://www.itawambacountyschools.com/board_members.htm You'll have to google Itawamba Agricultural High School Fulton, Ms. to get the school's direct address. The home page has been hacked and destroyed. (The addy is the first entry on Google.. thank you google maps!!)

I can't even imagine having to take on your entire school board just to be treated with respect. And you can only imagine how her classmates must be treating her. That's why I felt the need to do something.
