tsatske -> the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 3:51:53 AM)

It has been discussed on here at some point I believe. I know it was a topic of discussion in my munch one month.

the power imbalance created when a full dressed Dominant is beating or otherwise controlling their naked sub or bottom.

Wearing clothes can in and of itself be a Dominant act.

Now, what I need to know is, can we convince the Doms on the other side of this important fact, in relation to their chosen Domly profile pics?

FelineFae -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 4:38:37 AM)

imho, the Dom/mes that matter already know this. [;)]

But trying to express our picture preferences to those on the other side is kinda wasted effort.
Those that care would come to this side, introduce themselves, use the search feature, ask a sub/slave...

It is still a good point and worth sharing in the right setting.

LOL

I've always said if a man posts a photo of his dangly bits, it's pretty obvious to me what he wants to be know as.[8|]
Presentation is everything!

Smutmonger -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 6:55:20 AM)

I always looked at a naked Top as being a switch in profiles. Or some sort of net wanker-Females included.

Don't know about the switch theory, but then I'm a switch and I don't feel a need to post nude pics.  I think it might have more to do with virility at least on the man's part.  I do agree it goes both ways...male and female.

I've been looking through profiles...dom/me, sub, slave, switch...and I'm always surprised by how  people chooses to present themselves.  I came across one that was listed as a domme and the photo she posted was of her kneeling and showing pretty much nothing but her nude ass.  I couldn't take a thing written in her profile serious because all I could think of was her as an ass.

When I first started exploring WIITWD, I met up with a dominant man who rarely wore black clothing.  In fact, on our first date, he wore a handknit multicolored sweater and jeans.  I remember that sweater, his smile and the way he engaged everyone around him, me included.  He told me later that night the reason he wore it was to gauge my reaction and to let me know it wasn't the black leather boots/pants/vest that was dominant...he could even make me associate a tacky handknit multicolored sweater with an image of dominance.

I still say, in all seriousness, presentation is everything.  If you want to be known as an ass...present yourself as an ass.  If you want to be known as a dick...post photos of your dangly bits.  If you want to be known as a person...present yourself as a human.  Sometimes that means NOT posting a photo in order to make better use of your words.

Nslavu -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 7:23:08 AM)

Reminds me of that pearl of wisdom "You can dress him up; but you can't take him anywhere."

much worse-

if he undresses himself, you can't take him at all.

Smutmonger -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 7:26:33 AM)

A Lot of people mistake Dominance for the physical acts. Much like a body builder who thinks having muscles makes him powerful-but he lacks power everywhere else. Which makes him average or less-when all is taken into consideration.

Ability and personal power are a lot more about what is in your head-than what is between your legs.

LadyPact -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 7:37:00 AM)

Great timing of the thread.

Just last week, I was sent a note from a Dom.  Attached, he sent a pic of his face, and I'm quoting here, to be polite.  His main profile pic was him standing in his underwear with the head cut off.  So, I wrote back asking him why he thought any woman would want to talk with him since the main pic was how he was presenting himself.  The return to Me was that he was trying to be nice and why didn't I just drop it.  I wrote back to say that I hoped it would give him a chance to learn something.

Unfortunately, he didn't.  A couple of days later, he posted in the Mistress section, still a headless pic in his underwear.

I am so glad that I'm not the only one who can't take such folks seriously.

fadedshadow -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 7:58:08 AM)

kind of related to what LadyPact posted, it's harder for me to take someone seriously if they're dressed (or not dressed) like the person she mentioned. personally, i think a person broadcasting his and/or her nudity to everyone everywhere it's kind of pathetic. but that's just me.

DesFIP -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 8:22:41 AM)

Unfortunately it still leaves all the naked male subs who post pictures of their dangling bits.

lol  I'm not part of the "all" male subs *grinz*

But yes, having anyone msg me with a full nude pic of themselves doesn't leave a very positive impression with me. I'm on other sites where little to no clothed photos are par for the course but that's due to the nature of those sites. Much prefer not seeing someone's dangly bits is more tasteful and there's enough time later to reveal what is hidden under the clothes.

DesFIP -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 8:48:04 AM)

Bear, you're special. Nobody would mind seeing nekkid pictures of you.

GreedyTop -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 9:33:58 AM)

I've seen Bear's dangly bits *grins*

Personally, I find most of the full nude main pics icky.  There are some that are done beautifully, from a photography point of view.  Sadly, those are rare.

RavenMuse -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 1:25:03 PM)

Funny, the one pic on My profile where I'm naked is the one that gets the most positive comments (Ok it only shows to My chest... but I was nekkid! [:D])

I know the kind of shot thats being refereed to and yes, I don't see them making a Dominant impression regardless of which gender it is.

osf -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 1:33:52 PM)

I had a pic of my dom shoes that everybody was envious of

wisdomtogive -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 1:38:26 PM)

Lately, I have notice a lot more naked profile pictures stretching through Dom/sub profiles of both gender. I just shrug. I think my mind set is getting to old to keep up with what young people find worth while to display. oye, and coming from one of the original hippies...hangs head.....

divi -> RE: the Dominance of Clothing (3/19/2010 1:40:03 PM)

Oh yes .. cause older people dont let their junk hang out lol

Jeff had a pic up of just him in chaps and CM made him take it down for being too offensive
