I'd rather beat a wall than play with a stoic bottom.  I enjoy a cooperative bottom who releases the energy that I feed into him, not just greedily absorbs it and fails to feed it back to me.

Frankly, if I wanted stoic, I'd play with my teddy bears.

But I want human partners and all that comes with it -- yes, all of it, no matter how difficult things can be from time to time.

However, there are many people who have trouble being loud or ever vocal during a scene or during sex. I find this especially true for younger peope in or right after college; maybe its a dorm room holdover. Others just think that somehow making noise is being weak or not what they should do cause they read it in a porno.

I'd say this is something to discuss during negotiations. If a top/dom want's noise or not, that should be made clear up front. If its not what the bottom/sub normally doe then you have to decide if the other factors make it worth the effect to retrain old habits. Generally I find it worth the effect to help someone learn to become vocal; usually they just need encouragement and to be told to make noise several times.

There seems to be an assumption here that a quiet bottom is being deliberately stoic (or even greedy and withholding).  What if the bottom is just naturally quiet, rather than making an effort to keep quiet?  Would you still want some noise out of them, even if that meant they'd be faking it?

Actually, yes because I feed off hearing as must as the other senses -- have to have something to hear.

Plus I think that you can help someone learn to let go by encouraging them.

It doesn't have to be fake sounds -- it can be feed back like "that's nice" or "more please" or "are you pleased mistress?".

Just a little trivia:  stoic is from the Greek word "stoa" which means "porch" as in the ancient philosophers who used to preach from their porches, Today we'd call them soap boxes.......which caused me to think about the "doormat" sub on nthe porch!!!  Talk about a Train of Thought!!   [8|]

While possible I suppose, I think it's difficult for even the most stoic to remain seemingly  unaffected during intense periods. I like the reality of the emotions, so most any natural reaction pleases Me.  I love body language (tensing up, slight non-intentional resistence, or sudden reactive movements), and a sudden gasp in surprise or in pain is priceless.

I do however, love whimpering, and any sound which transmits through a gag or from beneath Me intensifies the situation in all the right ways.

NO, I do not want anyone to fake anything with me. I understand the desire to take it for me,and I appreciate it. I would not like a boy who howls at the first tap. I LOVE IT! Stoic is ok if they are that way wihin their personality and we discuss it but overall I love to hear the reactions to what I am doing. Part of my enjoyment as a sadist.

I would have to agree with Pandora and the other Dom(me)s here, I too love it when a sub makes noise. Especially when they are 'prim and proper' as you start to play with them. Vocal depends on the time and the situation and how they are vocal.  If they ask me in the middle of something sexual if I did my taxes, I'm sure it would kill the mood.  I think that talk beforehand is important.  I do like someone who has their own voice and is unafraid to use it even if they are submissive.  I think in certain circumstances people need to be empowered to be vocal.  I also think that communication is extremely important to a relationship whether it is bdsm or vanilla.  Now in the middle of a scene I like girly whimpers, moans and gasps.  Those are exciting beyond all measure to me.
