housesub4you -> Wow, how low will they go (3/20/2010 3:04:35 PM)

So at today's Teaparty rally where Steve King (IA), Michele Bachmann (MN), and Mike Pence (IN) all gave speeches.  They all refused to make comments on signs being carried by people, there are pictures all over the web today showing people carry signs at the rally with the slogan "If Brown can't stop health reform, then maybe Browning can" with a picture of a browning Gun on the poster

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/03/20/code-red-gun/

So, does remaining silent about this issue mean they support it?  Are they truly going to keep silent as people suggest using weapons to make sure health reform does not pass?

Also all over the web are reports detailing these actions by Teabaggers "staffer for Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told reporters that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-M.D.) had been spit on by a protestor. Rep. John Lewis (D-G.A.), a hero of the civil rights movement, was called a ‘ni–er.’ And Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was called a “faggot,” as protestors shouted at him with deliberately lisp-y screams. Frank, approached in the halls after the president’s speech, shrugged off the incident."

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/03/20/tea-party-spit/

All while the GOP elected officials gave speeches and never commented on what was going on around them.  I can understand not responding to people yelling, they may not have heard them.  But the signs where all over and visible during their speeches

Responding to the fringe just deflects their own message and gives that fringe the attention theyre seeking. commenting would be idiotic.

So ignore them and hope they go away?  let them spill hate and hope no one takes them seriously?  I mean that worked so well with the abortion issue, only a handful of Dr's have been killed by nuts like this

No, ignore them and let those who's job it is to deal with them deal with them, drama queen.

Wow, now even you have resorted to name calling.

Except they are not the fringe.

They are embraced as valuable members of the Republican Party.

Republicans Strain to Ride Tea Party Tiger - NYTimes.com

So publicly, Republicans are trying to make nice with Tea Party groups, particularly in states like California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky and New Hampshire, where Tea Partiers are upending Republican unity with primary challenges to establishment candidates.

The chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, proclaimed himself “a Tea Partier, a town-haller, a grass-rooter” in a recent interview, and organizers of the national Tea Party convention next month say he has expressed interest in their invitation to speak.

Tax Day Tea Parties Officially Endorsed By Republican Party

There has been much disagreement in recent days over whether the tax day tea party movement is grassroots or astroturf, a right-wing crusade or a spontaneous outburst of nonpartisan popular fury over government spending and taxes. However it got started, it's clear where it's headed: to an honored place within the mainstream Republican party.

The Republican National Committee, via its website, GOP.com. has officially endorsed the protest movement with a page where tea partiers can sign up to send a "virtual teabag" (e-bag?) to President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, or Harry Reid.

Even him?

When has he not resorted to name calling when he can't make an argument?

You lost me PA.

What does this have to do with the teabaggers?

Though, if this story is true I can understand why anyone would be upset.

pahunkboy -> RE: Wow, how low will they go (3/20/2010 4:15:30 PM)

There is a general feeling that the congress does not listen to the people.  That will come out in other ways.  If people can never participate within the system- they will begin to wonder about outside of the system.  So name calling and profanities is a possible outcome.  I am not saying it is the right thing to do.  I am saying that people currently are at odds with the federal congress.

housesub4you -> RE: Wow, how low will they go (3/20/2010 5:42:25 PM)

Seems that has been going on for at least 6 years, not happy with our government or it lack of listening to the people

Precisely.

Thousands attended today's "Code Red" rally, spread out across the West Lawn of the Capital.  All I've been able to find reported are three individuals who behaved very badly (the spitting, n word, and faggot incidents), and the two idiots who carried the Browning signs.

What makes you think they were even noticed by the speakers?  And just how do you figure those 5 people represent the entire Tea Bag party?

Aylee -> RE: Wow, how low will they go (3/20/2010 5:57:31 PM)

Didn't Pelsosi recently say that she was "Tea-partier" as well?

popeye1250 -> RE: Wow, how low will they go (3/20/2010 6:02:27 PM)

PaHunk, that staffer should be an ex-staffer!
Of the many many staffers I've talked to over the years almost every one was polite and proffessional.
One told me they're there to relay the message to the congressman or senator not to argue with people.

pahunkboy -> RE: Wow, how low will they go (3/20/2010 6:18:04 PM)

yes- Popeye-  I always got a polite staffer myself.  Maybe abit hurried- but for the most part professional.

Yeah, very few of them last long without exactly that philosophy. It takes a certain kind of temperament, a certain kind of personality to do that job. If you don't have it, you can't fake it. And you can cost your boss a hell of a lot of votes.

Not to mention the fact that the 3 speakers mentioned in the OP were moved up in their scheduled time slots because they had to get inside to vote on a few things today, and some committee stuff that is being rushed to be ready for tomorrow.

Funny there are other reports of large groups acting in unison and doing these things.

Yes but its different when you want to leave a message or an opinion, than when you have a whole outlined agenda and you expect to be given an hour to lay it out.
