MasterSteve57 -> Caning Skin Damage... (3/21/2010 2:38:22 PM)

I enjoy caning and have been at it for some years but despite my experience I'm still concerned that I might inflict damage that would leave lasting scars.

So I'm very cautious and light-handed. I end up usually leaving light red traces which tend to heal within an hour or two. I've never raised welts or caused any bleeding.

I'm eager to use a heavier hand but am concerned about the healing of welts. What should be my limit here? How can I know that I'm not inflicting lasting damage? Any guidance would be appreciated.

The simple answer:  You can't.  The more complicated answer is that drawing blood and doing so in the same area repeatedly is how lasting marks would occur.  That being said, if your submissive doesn't heal quickly or scratches and the like take time to fade away, you may need to tread even more carefully.  I have taken heavy welts, nearly opening the skin, without any permanent damage and the marks lasted about 10 days to 2 weeks.  It will depend on your submissive, type and size of the cane, where on the body you are striking, and a million other factors.  The main thing though is that cutting the skin ups the chance for permanent marks.  Prior to that point, I doubt anything would be left for longer that a few days to a few weeks.  Repeated striking of an open area is increasing both wound depth and size, so it is increasingly more likely to leave a permanent mark the more times you hit the same opened area.  If you want no risk of permanent marks, then avoid drawing blood.  Just be sure to factor in your equipment, technique, and healing time of your submissive.  Please do play safe!

I would be less worried about skin damage and more worried about nerve damage. Make sure you hit the rump and not the low back.

That would also be protective to the kidneys as it is in any other impact play.  It is especially important to keep away from the spine and vital organs with a cane, however.

Honestly, the limits are what the subbie/slaves limits are. I always have my Masters marks and bruises on me left from his cane, i love having his marks on me.
One can't do too much damage, naturally one stays away from the less fatty areas but upper and inner legs, arse are pretty much ok.
It all depends on the people involved and what they each want.
