Adelleda -> Romantic Food (3/24/2010 1:04:33 AM)

Hi Cm users! I have an assignment for tech where I make up a restaraunt and a menu for it along with some other things. My restaraunt is romantic, sort of like where a couple can have a good Valentines dinner together, even when it isn't Valentines Day. I hope ya'll get what I'm on about :P

It is a five course dinner menu - starters/appetisers, entree, main, and dessert (how can you have a meal without dessert?!).
Already have oysters (starter) spaghetti + meatballs (main), and a chocolate fondue (dessert).

Anyway, my question to you is: what is your idea of romantic food?

perfectflaw00 -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 1:42:44 AM)

chocolate covered strawberries I remember having a crush on a girl in college and her mentioning that she loved these. So one day I ended up making them and surprising her after class with them I certainly got the reaction I wanted. Been making them ever since for many of the women that I know

Do people really eat spaghetti with meatballs?
I've always thought it was some sort of joke about Americans of Italian descent :\

allthatjaz -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 6:24:31 AM)

Romantic food would be best cooked by Raymond Blanc at his restaurant Le Manoir

Starters would be a Sicilian risotto
Main would be Cornish crab, curry and mango; natural yoghurt and caviar
and dessert would be, Carpaccio
I would then need Pur Arabica coffee

If I wanted sex food then I would buy a cadburys cream egg. Its amazing what you can do with those things [;)]

I'd advise against the spaghetti.  Or any pasta except shells.  Messy and I can't feel romantic while being messy.

Indian food is good.  Sauces, exotic.  Arabic food as well.

LaTigresse -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 7:59:36 AM)

Make sure the masses actually like indian food. I don't, even the smell is nasty TO ME.

Italian food is, to me romantic food. Spaghetti less so. I would use smaller, bite sized pastas. Several choices of sauces. A bianca sauce with perhaps some finely chopped ham, some fresh peas.......a seafood option.......and a red sauce option.

I also believe that the more simple and whole foods are, the most sensual. Delicious fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella cheese, olive oil, good breads. Cheese platter, fresh fruit platter, beautiful olives.

For a dessert, something with raspberries, chocolate, perhaps a cheesecake.

FelineFae -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 9:14:10 AM)

Yeah, i'm not seeing the spaghetti as that romantic . Sorry.
But the idea of a smaller side of bite size pasta is a good idea. Carbs have romantic uses. Just enough to give you energy, not so much to leave one feeling too stuffed.

And of strawberries, was there ever a more sex-tastic romantic perfect supper food ? Hooray zinc !

Ideas; edible flowers, pomegranate seeds, herbed butters.... Oh, and ending the meal with a mint and rosehip tea for nice breath. [:D]

peppermint -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 9:32:39 AM)

I have to agree with Steven about the spaghetti and meatballs.  It's a messy meal.  If one is wearing white then after the meal it could be white with orange speckles.  I've never learned to eat spaghetti without some slurping and slurping is NOT sexy or romantic.

estah -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 10:26:22 AM)

peppermint, that depends on what you are slurping *winks*

Agreeing with allthatjaz on the menu...(allthatjaz...please send me a list of what you can do with those eggs, please).

verity

you sick fucks!!!!!!! whats wrong with spaghetti and meatballs????

Ain't none of you kinksters ever seen Lady and the Tramp? va va va vooooooom

Am I the only one? Is it just me?

beej -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 12:08:40 PM)

a spanish tapas menu because of the rich savory portions and the necessity of sharing, often with your fingers. :) i usually pass on sangria for a Malbec. tapas places also tend to be kind of bistro chic, and i find that a relaxed-with-gusto atmosphere is very sexy.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 1:07:04 PM)

Seafood of any sort is good, IMO, but especially the kind dipped in garlic butter.  So, lobster tails, crab legs, etc. all work.  Yes, it's slightly messy, but licking butter off each other's fingers is half the fun.  And anything chocolate for dessert is perfect, especially if it can be shared.

DesFIP -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 1:40:07 PM)

Spaghetti and meatballs are too heavy for a five course meal. You want to be low on the carbs to handle that much food.

Cup of soup/Half a dozen oysters or celery remoulade
Smoked salmon on toast points
Supreme of chicken with a cream sauce or filet mignon slices with portobello mushroom and port sauce
Salad
Dessert ie; chocolate mousse in a chocolate shell with raspberry puree

Jeffff -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 1:44:27 PM)

"Jeff's Two Ball Sauce", is a delightful addition to any meal

Any food as long as I'm eating it with beth...

However, in setting a 'romantic' environment; I'd suggest candles, nice music, a well aged wine, a fire in the fireplace, with foods, representing a wide variety of textures and tastes, spread out in a setting of pillows and comforters served with no utensils. Dinner attire would be 'black tie(s)' of course - nothing else but a few nice black ties to use and enhance the dining experience!

Enjoy!

windchymes -> RE: Romantic Food (3/24/2010 2:02:40 PM)

Shrimp cocktail, or broiled bacon-wrapped shrimp for appetizer
Lobster ravioli with a creamy vodka sauce for entree
Spinach salad with mushrooms, bacon and crumbled hard-boiled egg, with hot sweet vinagrette dressing
Garlic toast points

I love the chocolate fondue for dessert idea.

anything, with the exception of spaghetti, that i do not have to cook.

It's not just slingin' slop that is a turn off, but if you cook, you have to clean up. How romantic can you be when you are up to your armpits in dish soap? And don't EVEN try to get some action going when my kitchen is a mess. Sorry, Jim...grab a pot scrubber and then we'll talk.
